The Sound Track of Our Lives

She had stopped dancing. What else could she do? It wasn’t because she wanted to it was because she had to. She seemed to have lost the ability to control her limbs. They where now operating on autopilot, inexplicably drawn to the woman who had appeared out of nowhere. It was as if Tina had blinked her into existence. Maybe she was a nightmare. No, the glorious woman could never be anything but a vision. She took one more step. Any other time it would have been no big deal but this step was agony. She had been training herself to walk away from Bette. Now when Tina needed it most she was stepping toward her.

Before they knew what was going on, they found themselves hand in hand. The simple touch, so taken for granted in the past, was heavenly. The feeling their fingers intertwining sent her over the edge. Tina was past all reason; she was past all pain; right now there was only the music. The music and the feeling of Bette leading her back to the dance floor.

Bette smiles softly as recognizes the first notes of the song. “I believe that” she is silenced by the shake of Tina’s head. Bette nods back, understanding that no words would be enough. Anything and everything they could possibly say would not express what needed to be said. Bette takes Tina into her arms leading her backwards around the perimeter of the dance floor.

    [Kenny Rogers]

Baby when i met you, there was peace on earth

I set out to get you with a fine tooth comb

I was soft inside, there was something going on

Quick, quick, slow, slow. Bette raises her eyebrow in question, are you ready? Tina smiles, ready. Bette spins Tina under her arm so that now they were walking back to front. They fall back into step: quick, quick, slow, slow.

    [Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton]

You do something to me, that i can’t explain

Hold me closer, and i feel no pain

Every beat of my heart, we got something goin’ on

    [Kenny Rogers]

Tender love is blind, it requires a dedication

Emboldened by the successful spin, Bette decides to test how well she and Tina still move together. She tightens her grip on Tina’s right hand, a signal to be ready for the next turn. Bette spins the graceful blonde out then back in before she ducks underneath Tina’s outstretched arm. Once again they are face to face but this time Bette is the one walking backwards. She lets Tina lead her across the dance floor, at once glad that she was getting an opportunity to once again to hold and be held by Tina.

    3. Just full of surprises, aren’t you v? I felt as out of my element as Alice, too bad I didn’t have the good doctor to sweep me off my feet. But I quite enjoyed it none the less.
