The Sound Track of Our Lives

    [Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton]

Honest love, we feel, needs no conversation

And we ride it together, uh huh,

Making love with each other uh huh

Alice watches, unable to move from her spot near the door. The last two days were more then the reporter could handle. How could it be that she didn’t know so much about the people whom she considered her friends? Seeing Bette and Tina two step seemed more then reality would allow. Was everyone hiding something form her?

    “Do you want to dance?”

Alice jumps at Charlotte’s question, startled to see the brunette next to her. “I don’t know how to do that. I have only seen it on the John Travolta movie.”

“How about if I ask in my southern accent?” Charlotte raises an eyebrow in jest. She continues in her best southern belle accent, “No one can resist the charms of a southern woman.” She holds her hand out, “Will you give me the pleasure of this dance?”

Alice is just about to give in when a British woman interrupts, “Excuse me Alice but now that you are here I will be going. I feel a bit out of place,” she vaguely gestures to the gay cowboys.

Alice nods, “I know what you mean. Thank you for the call.”

“I was worried about her, darling.” Helena gives a dismissive wave. She turns to acknowledge the shorter woman, “You must be Dr. Kline.”

“Please call me Charlotte as I believe your foundation is paying my wages.” Charlotte takes Alice’s hand before nodding cordially to the heiress. “It was nice to make your acquaintance Ms. Peabody.”

Helena studies Charlotte before nodding, “Goodbye, Charlotte.” With that she was gone.

“What was that all about?” Alice demands.

Charlotte squeezes her hand, “I’ll tell you some other time. We don’t want to miss the rest of the two step.” She gives Alice a stunning smile as she whisks them onto the dance floor.

    Quick.

    Quick.

    Slow.

    Slow.

The song ends before they know it. Alice releases her death grip on Charlotte’s hand. She tries to walk off the dance floor.

“Where do you think you are going?” Charlotte seizes Alice’s waist dragging her back. “We are not done yet,” she whispers into Alice’s ear.

    3. Just full of surprises, aren’t you v? I felt as out of my element as Alice, too bad I didn’t have the good doctor to sweep me off my feet. But I quite enjoyed it none the less.
