    More time at the lake.

     

    Hannah looks at her and nods her head yes, as if understanding what Bette is asking of her.  “I have a major problem at work.  When this problem finally gets resolved, and it’s almost there, there is going to be major fallout in the whole department.  Everything is going to be affected.”

     

    Hannah is attentive, tilting her head and appearing to take in Bette’s every word.  “Now my other problem is your Auntie Tina knows something is wrong.  I haven’t told her about any of this because I don’t want her to worry.  I know it’s bothering her that I won’t tell her.  But right now, it’s for her own good.”

     

     

     

    Melissa has woken up and gone to check on Hannah.  Seeing her bed empty, she continues through the house and sees Bette with her on the back porch.  As she gets closer, she overhears Bette talking to Hannah about her problems.  Melissa decides this is not a moment to be interrupted and heads back for the bedroom.  Donna had gotten up and is a few steps behind Melissa. 

     

    “Come on Donna, let’s go back to the bedroom.”

     

    “Where’s Hannah?  She’s not in her bed and you don’t have her.”

     

    “She’s fine.  Bette’s got her.”

     

    “Ok, I want to go check on her.”

     

    “Not right now.  Bette’s having a moment, let her have it” Melissa told her as they headed to the bedroom.

     

    They bump into Tina, just exiting her bedroom.  “Good morning.”

     

    “Morning Tina.”

     

    “Where are you two going?”

     

    “Back to our room for a few minutes.”

     

    “Have you seen Bette?”

     

    “Yeah, she and Hannah are having a conversation out back” Melissa tells her.

     

    Tina raises her eyebrows.  “Okkkkk?” as she walks on.

     

     

     

    Out on the back porch, Bette continues.  “So see, this is the point where my professional life is causing major issues with my personal life.  I love your Auntie Tina more than anything.  And it kills me to keep this from her.  But if I tell her, that could put her in jeopardy.  And I wouldn’t do that for anything in the world.”

     

    Tina approached the porch just in time to hear Bette’s last comment.  She watched and listened as Bette continued.

    10. I was a happy camper when I saw that you had posted. It takes me awhile to read but I did and I very much enjoyed this chapter. Bette and Tina are going to make good parents whether they adopt or have one of their own.
