When You Least Expect It – Chapter 13

"Boo boo be do . . Boo boo be do . . ."

Bette laid on the newspaper covered floor, staring up at the white ceiling as her fingers tapped away on her bare belly. It had been a whole 5 minutes since Tina left to answer the door and the brunette couldn’t help but feel impatient. It shouldn’t have taken so long to get rid of whoever was at the door, what was Tina doing?

"Boo boo be do . . Boo boo be do"

Bette sighed after another minute had passed, choosing finally to get up and search for her girlfriend. She walked over to her discarded bra and blouse, putting both paint covered garments on before heading out of the room.

As soon as she reached the hallway, the muffled sound of Tina’s voice tickled Bette’s ears. She listened intently as another muffled voice followed, most likely responding to whatever Tina and said. Bette’s curiosity was officially peaked and she cautiously made her way down the hall.

"You’ve got to be kidding me. Please tell me this is a fucking joke"

"Tina seriously, let me in if you’re going to keep yelling at me. I don’t want the entire neighborhood to know our business"

"Oh now you care about what other people think?"

    "Look, I just-"

    "T?"

Tina immediately whipped around at the sound of Bette’s voice, the anger, worry and fear in her eyes made Bette’s stomach drop with dread. Her heart rate sped up as her eyes darted back and forth between Tina and the unfamiliar man standing at the door. Bette eyed him carefully, intimidating him though her fierce gaze.

"What’s going on? Is everything alright?"

Tina let out a deep sigh and brought her hand to her forehead, rubbing it with the frustration she felt. "Um . . Yeah. It’s fine. Everything is fine"

A beat of silence passed between the three, the time seemingly standing still for Tina who stood rather awkwardly as Bette and the man at the door were busy trying to figure the other out. She crossed an arm over her middle nervously, gesturing her other hand in Bette’s direction.
