When You Least Expect It – Chapter 13
"If it was so stupid and so little then why are you avoiding her again?"
"I’m not avoiding her" Bette looked at her sister timidly and was met with another challenging raise of the eyebrow. It was like the craziest form of deja-vu and Bette knew how things would play out. She pursed her lips and let out a breath through her nose, "Okay fine maybe I am"
"Look, I may not know exactly what went on between you two but I do know that she is sorry for what she said"
Bette raised an eyebrow, clearly intrigued with her new-found knowledge. "Oh, so you’ve spoken to her"
"A bit. Enough to know that she’s beating herself up about what she said to you. You know she didn’t mean it Bette"
Ever the stubborn brunette, she crossed her arms over her chest. "If she didn’t then why hasn’t she apologized"
"She hasn’t?" Kit questioned, raising her eyebrow once more. "Because last time I checked she’s been trying to reach you for the last 5 days and you haven’t picked up any of her phone calls"
Bette had no idea how to respond, her eyes immediately dropping in shame. Kit wasn’t wrong and ever since her fight with Tina the blonde had been in fact trying to contact her. Bette was just too stubborn and upset to bother picking up even one phone call. Now that she had the time to reflect on the situation, Bette regretted her decision with the realization that Tina could have been calling about Angelica.
What if Angie had been hurt and Bette, like Kevin didn’t even bother to pick up the phone? Just the thought of being similar to the man she had come to hate made her want to hate herself. Her stomach churned with dread and regret. She wondered just how in the hell did things get so messed up in the first place. Everything had been going so well and she had been truly happy for the first time in her entire life.
Kit sighed as she watched the wheels turn in her sister’s head, knowing that Bette once again needed a nudge in the right direction. She loved her sister deeply and over time had grown to love Tina and Angelica as members of her family. All she wanted for the three was happiness, something they could only achieve if they were together.
