When You Least Expect It – Chapter 13

Bette instinctively tightened her grip on her girlfriend’s arms, completely unfazed about Kevin’s seemingly heartfelt speech. She was convinced that he was a liar and that someone like him could not undo all the damage that had been caused.

"I think you should go" Bette spoke low, her tone still as cold and firm as it had been during Kevin’s entire visit.

Ignoring Bette, Kevin set his pleading eyes on his ex with hope that her forgiving nature still existed. "Tina"

The blonde nodded, finding strength in her girlfriend. "She’s right, I think you should go"

    "But Tina-"

"I can’t do this with you right now Kevin. Please just go. I’ll call you during the week"

Kevin’s eyes went from Tina to Bette and then back to the blonde, realizing that she wasn’t going to budge on the matter. Bette had a bigger influence on his ex than he had thought. It upset him but nevertheless he gave in, deciding to try again another day.

    "Okay, I’ll be waiting"

He made his way to the door with Bette right behind him, slamming the door shut the moment he walked over the threshold. The wood rattled a bit and the brunette had hoped it was because it slammed against his head, one could only be so lucky.

"Can you believe him?" She asked incredulously as she turned around to face her girlfriend,  "Did he really think he was just going to show up months later and everything was going to go back to the way it was? That he was just going to be part of Angie’s life as if he hadn’t been a ghost for the last year"

She looked at Tina who was obviously stressed out, her hands tunneled in her blonde hair as she expelled a heavy breath. Bette watched her with caution as she paced in the living room, unsure and worried as to what Tina was thinking at that very moment.

"You’re not going to let him, are you?" She asked, her tone a bit firmer than she had intended but she couldn’t help it. Her stomach churned and her heart raced, the worry coursing through her body making her sick.
