When You Least Expect It – Chapter 14
She closed the door once Bette had stepped inside, watching as the brunette soothed Angelica who had begun to stir. Tina watched as they disappeared behind the wall, Bette’s lips on Angelica’s head the last thing she saw.
A sharp pang settled in Tina’s chest and she sighed heavily at the pain she felt, blinking back the approaching tears. She made her way back into the kitchen with hopes to distract herself from her sadness.
How did things get like this? She wondered as she wiped down the dirty marble counter-top. Were things really back to that? To them walking on eggshells around each other?
Tina hated the distant side of Bette and would be lying if she said that she didn’t miss the brunette terribly, every day harder than the one before. Tina’s lips quivered and she sniffed back her tears, continuing to wipe down the now clean counter-top.
Two teardrops splashed onto the counter right before Tina’s hand swiped over the marble, wiping it clean immediately. Two more threatened to escape and would have had Tina not heard Bette exit Angelica’s room. The blonde quickly wiped her eyes with the back of her hand, hoping to appear normal by the time Bette reached her.
She pretended to act busy as she heard Bette walk down the hall, cutting potatoes even though she felt the brunette standing somewhere behind her.
Bette watched Tina’s back in silence, unsure of what to say. A part of her still upset with Tina but the other, bigger part missed her girlfriend dearly. She didn’t want to leave, not without saying something.
"So uh . ." Bette started, her tone though uneasy managed to unravel the emotional blonde. Tina froze, her heart racing as she waited for Bette to continue, "I heard Stacy put in her two weeks"
Tina tried not to feel disappointed but God did it surge through her. Her bottom lip trembled before she pressed it together with the top, clearing her throat before she spoke.
"Yeah" She breathed out as she scooped up the potatoes in her cutting board, carefully putting them into the pot of boiling water right after. "Her boyfriend got a job at a news station in Boston. He asked her to go with him"
