When You Least Expect It – Chapter 14

"That’s good" Bette nodded as she watched Tina dump the rest of the raw potatoes into the pot. "Its just unfortunate that she has to leave. I know how good of an assistant she was to you"

"Tell me about it" Tina shook her head as she put the dirty cutting board into the sink, "I don’t know where I’m going to find someone who can do half the things she did"

Bette pursed her lips in a small smile and shrugged a single shoulder, "I’m sure you’ll be okay. You’ll find someone great"

"I hope so" Tina sighed as she finally gained the courage to turn around and face Bette, the sight of the beautiful brunette making her heart skip a beat.

Bette was dressed in a sexy charcoal grey suit that Tina swore was created just for her. It fit Bette’s body perfectly, the purple top underneath only adding to the stunning outfit. Her hair was pinned up giving Tina a the best view of her exposed neck, a neck that the blonde had gone without kissing for a whole week.

Tina looked away before her thoughts could consume her, a soft flush already warming her cheeks. She brought her eyes back to the brunette a moment later and smiled tenderly, shy even but Bette could see the sadness in Tina’s expression.

"Look at us" Tina shook her head, "Making small talk like some divorced couple"

Bette’s eyes fell to the floor for a moment before she lifted them once more, looking into the blonde’s eyes with so much emotion that Tina couldn’t even begin to decipher any of it. It made her nervous and she didn’t know why, her heart beating so fast it left her without air.

"I don’t want to be like some divorced couple"

A breath of relief escaped Tina’s lips, her shoulders even sagging as though a weight was lifted off them. A bright smile spread across her lips and Bette thought it was the most beautiful thing she had ever seen.

After not seeing that smile for a week, it undoubtedly was.
