When You Least Expect It – Chapter 15

He walked in quickly, eager to get away from the intimidating woman. His eyes desperately went in search of Tina and he sighed in relief when he saw her reaching into the refrigerator.

"Hey Tina" He smiled as he walked over, turning Tina around the moment she had straightened her body and pulled her into a rather awkward hug.

"Uh h-hi Kevin" Tina’s eyes widened in surprise as she lightly patted her ex-husband’s back, glancing over at her girlfriend to see the brunette scowling silently.

She  pulled back from the hug and tucked a strand of blonde hair behind her ear nervously, smiling awkwardly at the man in front of her.

"I just wanted to thank you for setting this up so that I could meet Angie" Kevin shrugged a shoulder and smiled, "It means a lot to me"

Tina wasn’t sure what to make of Kevin’s forward actions, unable to remember the last time he had been so affectionate. Back when they were married, even receiving something so simple as a hug from the man was an impossible task. It was weird and Tina wasn’t used to it. Nevertheless, she smiled warmly as she placed her hand on his arm and gave it a gentle squeeze. Always the kind and mindful hostess.

"I’m glad we could do this too" She placed a warm hand on his shoulder and gave it a gentle pat, "Why don’t you take a seat on the couch? I was just going to get us something to drink"

"Uh sure" Kevin smiled and Tina saw the disappointment in his eyes. She wasn’t sure what he was looking for in her response but he clearly didn’t get it.

He took a seat on the couch to the right of Bette whom was sitting comfortably on a separate leather chair a foot away, thankful for the bit of distance. Their eyes locked instantly though neither said a word, both trying to intimidate the other with their penetrating stares. They broke eye contact the moment Tina entered the living room, three cups of iced tea in hand.
