Wings of An Angel – Bette and Tina – Chapter 10

Cranes of incredible strength tailored the site to a perfect fit lifting and removing the heavy home one stone at a time.  Crew members worked diligently from hour to hour working in three hour shifts; taking turns allowing each group to refurbish themselves with refreshments and much earned rest.  Strangers from different, and yet the same, worlds were coming together for a common goal; to hunt and slay the dragon named the Impossible.  As each minute passed, heavy hearts were being crushed for the sign of proclaiming the winner at the finish line was still being judged from the ownership between good and evil.  Struggling with the strain of lifting marble, metal and concrete fragments from shovel to barrel was a job of itself not meant for the dispirited, but the driving force of will to know the truth was pertinent to the hundred hands and feet breaking the natural stamina of the human body to keep slaughtering the dragon.  After five excruciating hours into the mist of clouded dust, the basement level of the building was finally cleared of all the suffocating steel and metal; air being granted the permission to journey freely without recourse or fright.  Silence was greeted with hushed voices as everyone watched the last piece of wooden rubble being lifted from the still body of Bette Porter.

Mike. Check for any sign of a pulse.  We need to get her into the ambulance now.  Mike kneed and placed his two fingers against Bettes neck and felt a subtle, slow beating rhythm.  Mike smiled as he raised his eyes to John, Its weak, but shes alive.  John was relieved and shouted for everyone to hear, Shes alive and with those two spoken important words, the crowd cheered and smiled for the first time in six hours.  Where in the world is the boy? John asked to no one in particular as Mike was assisting the medical staff to descend the precarious steps.  As the crew harnessed Bette securely and tightly on the flat board, they quickly made their climb up the stairway to start administering life saving aide.  Mike returned his attention to his partner and asked, What about the shaft?  Its the only place to left to look.  John attentively walked towards the closed door and opened the metal plate to find a small boy curled in a fetal position with his arms wrapped tightly around his legs.  It was a phenomenal experience to actually witness the depth of a womans courage to ensure the safety of a child above her own survival; even a child not of her own blood.  Mike, get the second group down here.  Mike nodded his agreement and whispered, You bet.

    1. I actually have to agree with slipperynipple. I like this story and love how you don’t just rush through things (unlike IC & Co. since they only have a maximum of 60 minutes a week to play with), but I actually had to keep stopping while reading this so I wouldn’t wear myself out. Introducing the supernatural was a good idea seeing as it would take a miracle for someone to come out of an incident like that alive.

    2. I found your story today and spent my afternoon reading it. This is intriguing me. The thing I am most curious about is the little boy, something is weird with that situation. I am wondering if this is going to be an adventure like the movie “What dreams may come.” Will we find the little boy helping Tina face the Angel of Death? This story is also reminding me of Stephen king’s book “Rose Madder.” Although I really enjoy this story and your writing is great I would have to agree with slipperynipple about the length in certain parts. It can take away from the story. other than that I am enjoying it, please continue!

    3. Cool! I seem to be drifting into the dark side of the world lately. The fight between Tina and the Dark Lord was intriguing. The Angel of Life just seemed to stand their and let Tina fight for Bette. The only time that you saw it or it was mentioned was when they were running down the hall and that Angel was running beside Bette. It will take all that Tina can give to Bette to keep her alive. Please post soon.

    4. Good to see you back Leo and this is good chapter. When Tina talk to the Angel of Death is scary, ok glad Bette ok now and hope she will wake up soon. OK post soon please, thanks!

    5. Leo, god damn – you have been gone so long and then you give us the chapter from hell :o)……holy christ this was intense leo – absolutely amazing. Pleas do continue – We so want more, but please not so much drama on the next one eventhought we love it :o) Post soon

    6. Well, so you disappear and then out of nowhere….BANG, after that chapter you once again have our attention…pls don’t ever go away that long again….I will assume that you are busy writing the next, and the next, and the next chapters….as you owe us big time….almost forgot….THANKYOU

    7. Ya know this will be the first time I will write this. The story is good but this was too much. I think I skipped to the ending. The middle took to long and took me along a path I was not very interested in. But believe me this does not mean that the story did not have the desired affect but sometimes less is more. Could of done without some of the death part and the construction site part. Thanks for the story

    8. Three months and thirteen days……..three months and thirteen days is how long you had a woman waiting…(its this how you threat your women)…….LE0, three months and thirteen days………..BUT it was worth the wait………….This chapter by far is your best……The struggle that Tina is going through to keep Bette where she belongs is heart felt…………The fight that she has with the Angel of Death clearly shows how in love she is with Bette and how far she will go to keep her…………..Now PLEASE let Tina win this fight so we can find out the mystery about Bette and Kit………..WE want a happy ending………Now I’ll only waiting THREE HOURS AND THIRTEEN MINUTES this time…………Please continue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    9. Leo, welcome back although it’s been WAY TOO LONG. What an ambitious and complex chapter, thank you! If you ever feel another writer’s block coming on consider writing a simpler 1 or 2 pager to keep the creative juices flowing and keep in touch with your readers.
