Bette Knee Pat #2.
Tim turns right and goes past a sign for The Crescent At West Hollywood. Judging from the map, this means Tim is taking a right just off Sunset Boulevard and going through West Hollywood on North Crescent Heights Road. In order to get from here to North Genesee Avenue, Tim would ignore staying on Sunset and then turning onto North Genesee from there. Instead, Tim is going from Sunset to taking a right on North Crescent Heights Road, then taking a left on Fountain Avenue, then possibly a right on North Genesee, which is right down from North Spaulding Avenue, thus paying off Shane’s mention of living at Spaulding Square in Season 4. Technically, they’re right at it at the very least.
It stands to reason that the house locations of Bette and Tina and their new neighbor Tim, and the newly arriving Jenny would be on the West side of the North Genesee, placing North Ogden Drive behind them and in front of them, turnoffs (from North to South) to Hampton Avenue, Lexington Avenue, and Norton Avenue as well as another street before getting to Santa Monica Boulevard.
Tim shows Jenny the home and her new studio as Jenny has waited 6 months to arrive. Tim remodeled the garage into Jenny’s studio in the, “past few days.” It’s possible this was a spur of the moment idea on Tim’s part and also means he did a lot of work in a short span of time. Tim’s sacrifice.
Bette and Tina leave Dan and meet Sean Heaney at his art studio, ready to donate sperm. Sean is a painter. Afterwards, Bette and Tina leave Sean with the sperm in a jar and have since made their second stop at The Planet, as evidenced by the cups they are drinking out of. Bette drives and talks with Annie over the phone, able to go hands free with the headset plugged in. This is Annie’s first (and possibly last) time curating for Bette. Again, this could be for Laurie Papou or for something different. It is implied that Annie is one of Bette’s friends from the artworld, which we’ll get a little more insight on as Season 1 progresses. Bette also admits to having gone down on a man at least once in her life with, “I can’t believe I used to swallow that stuff.”
The windows to Jenny’s studio are stained as we see her alone in her new place for the first time. This also leads to her first time seeing one of the other main characters, though she does not realize that immediately. The character is Shane, diving into the swimming pool that Jenny herself will die in at series end. Jenny sees Shane diving into Bette and Tina’s swimming pool in the first episode of the series. In the last episode of the series, Shane will jump into that same pool in an effort to save Jenny. With Shane here is (presumably) Mandy (last name revealed as Garret in Episode 103). Otherwise, I don’t know who this woman is and have no clue who Mandy is in the credits. Shane bemoans the Chateau being, “uptight,” due to not letting her swim naked with Mandy mentioning that the Chaeau’s pool is public. The Chateau is a likely reference to the Chataeu Marmont in West Hollywood, located on Sunset Boulevard.
This is Shane’s first kiss and also the first swimming pool moment. Also worth mentioning is Jenny looking on with a fixation almost similar to Mark Wayland’s in Season 2 only without a hidden camera involved. Jenny does eventually look away out of possible discomfort.
Dr. Wilson’s office for the scheduled insemination. So a quick review of Bette and Tina’s travels today up to this point.
-Leave home for The Planet
-Bette heads over to the CAC for work while Tina likely hangs out with Alice, Dana, and Marina at The Planet before hitching a ride over to Dr. Foxworthy
-Bette arrives at Dr. Foxworthy’s where Tina is waiting
-Bette and Tina leave Dr. Foxworthy for Sean Heaney’s studio for the sperm donation
-A second stop at The Planet for drinks while Sean’s sperm waits, perhaps being affected
-Arriving at Dr. Wilson’s for the insemination that will not be
Considering what Bette is about to do with Tina, the image of the Teddy Bear and baby is a little unsettling. The mouth wipe is a nice touch.
Bette Knee Pat #3.
Sean’s sperm is no good.
The grocery store is Laurelwood Farms Market. Eduardo is the manager and Jenny is looking for a job which she will get. Laurelwood Farms Market could be an analog for Whole Foods Market which is located not far from where Jenny would live, located on Santa Monica Boulevard between North Orange Grove Avenue (which is just to the right of North Ogden) and North Fairfax Avenue. In the commentary, Ilene will note that is meant to evoke a “little grocery store” on the corner of Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue, which would be Bristol Farms. While Laurelwood Farms Market may be the result of inspiration from Bristol, it doesn’t fit as far as the map goes and Jenny’s walking from Laurelwood, past The Planet to her left at Santa Monica Boulevard and arriving home on North Genesee Avenue.
Tina’s 3rd trip to The Planet with Bette probably dropping her off before heading back to the CAC to finish her workday. There with Tina are Alice and Dana. Sean is revealed as one of Alice’s exes, or at the very least a past sexual partner (which means that should probably be on The Chart). Alice is also revealed as bisexual while Dana is gay and in the closet. Tina has been unable to become pregnant for 6 months. This means that Sean has attempted this more than once. This also means that Tina’s been out of work for at least half a year, if not longer. Going to Dr. Wilson may have been an attempt on Bette and Tina’s part to see if they were doing something wrong with their home grown attempts at making the insemination work, only to get the medical word that Sean’s sperm was no good. Tina mentions that Sean was Bette’s choice, a subtle nod to the Control Freak issue that Bette has to deal with later in the series.
Meanwhile, Dana has changed outfits and it appears she is on her way to some late afternoon training. For Alice, she could just be hanging out there all day or just going back and forth between there and LA Magazine where she takes assignments.
Tina just had her egg implanted so she can still conceive, “in the next two or three days.” Marina is also there and Shane will soon arrive to meet up with a client, which may also be Kerry, who is in what is revealed to be in a contentious relationship with Lori as we get to Bette & Tina’s party. Here, Kerry has a look similar to Lara Perkins who will debut next episode (Episode 103). I note this due to Dana falling head over heels for Lara and someone kinda similar to her is right behind her and she doesn’t even notice. It is also possible that Dana did notice her earlier in an off-screen moment, but said nothing as Kerry was already in a relationship. Plus, being in a public venue and all.
However, Dana does notice Jenny walking by on the sidewalk past The Planet. While this is mainly set up to establish something subliminal for Marina when it comes to her sudden attraction to Jenny, it’s also worth mentioning that Dana is the first main female character to notice Jenny. This is noteworthy with Jenny’s character being something of an albatross. The first to see her (Dana) is practically cursed with death from this point on, which will finally happen in Episode 310.
Jenny is walking right to left, on her way home from Laurelwood Farms Market where she just received a job application to fill out. If Laurelwood is located where Whole Foods would be in real life West Hollywood, that means Jenny is walking East, then North, placing The Planet on the way back home from the store and also to the South of the houses of Bette and Tina and also Tim and Jenny, also placing it right there at the Northside of Santa Monica Boulevard. This would also mean that Jenny got a nice bit of exercise walking East from Laurelwood to home, crossing North Orange Grove Avenue and North Ogden Drive to get to North Genesee Avenue before walking North to her new home, past The Planet.
As Day 1 of the narrative ends, Tim and Jenny talk about what Jenny saw next door, thinking it was Bette and Tina when instead it was Shane and Mandy. Jenny hasn’t been introduced to anyone yet so the mistaken identity is understandable. This is also a clue-in to Tim’s aloofness to the people around him.
By the way, this means that Jenny has a lot of energy. Riding from Skokie to Chicago O’Haire Airport, taking a redeye or early morning flight from there, landing in Los Angeles, not taking an immediate nap, but instead going about and applying for a job while also wanting to shop for a car 2 days later.

Hats off to Kace for his endless devotion to The L Word! I cannot imagine the patience and level of detail it would take to pull off this project, but he is committed to it. Thanks from TLW fans everywhere!
A lot off thanks for his dedication.
My applause to you.
Just awesome!
Kace, I watched the episodes that had Kit’s car shown but I couldn’t see all of the rear end so I can’t be accurate about the year but you are right in that it is a 1971 or 1972 Chevrolet Impala four door sedan. Hope that helps.
