That confession didn’t result in a immediate creation of a new couple because Brittany was still dating Arty, though she seemed to return Santana’s feelings. Santana was left heartbroken and going back to what she always was known to be, a cold-hearted bitch.
Afraid to come out as a lesbian, Santana hooked up with school bully, Dave Karofsky, himself a closeted gay. By the end of season two, when Santana was not chosen as a prom queen, Brittany comforts her and encourages her to embrace her identity.
The question remained, will Santana go back to boys and stay a bi-sexual character or will she be an out lesbian, dealing with her sexuality the same way that Kurt did?
During Paley Festival panel this year, Naya Rivera mentioned that the response from fans to her coming-out episode has been “overwhelming and humbling”. Some fans wrote on Twitter that it gave them courage to come out and the cast felt such an enormous responsibility to portray these stories right, to convey a positive message to young gays and lesbians around the world.

In March 2011, Brad Falchuk, the show’s other creator, confirmed that Santana is a lesbian. He said that “she might not be ready to come out yet, but she is.” When Naya Rivera was asked at the Paley panel what she would like to see in Brittana’s future, she replied, “I’d probably get her pregnant and we’d have a spinoff… but Santana should be with her. I’d like to see her end up with Brittany.”
Glee will return for its third season this fall, so I guess we have to wait and see in what direction Brittana’s storyline will go.
