Best Friends Forever is a romantic comedy “about old friends, new beginnings, and awkward situations.” It stars Lennon Parham who moves back to New York after her divorce and moves in with her best friend, played by Jessica St. Clair. Jessica’s live-in boyfriend begins feeling like a stranger in his own home when the girls get back to their old habits.
The last upcoming pilot is a comedy Bent, starring Amanda Peet as a single mom who tries hard not to fall for the sexy contractor she hires to redo her kitchen (David Walton). Amanda plays Alex. She’s a lawyer, strong, tough and recently divorced. Pete, the contractor, is a recovering gambler, avid surfer and womanizer. The cast also includes Jeffrey Tambor from Arrested Development.
SHOWS THAT DIDN’T MAKE IT
NBC had the most talked about pilot this season in Wonder Woman, which didn’t make it in the end. Robert Greenblatt, who recently left Showtime and was hired by NBC as the Chairman of Entertainment, told in recent interview: “They did a great pilot and worked really hard on it. And I have huge respect for David E. Kelley. But we looked at the schedule and our needs and where things were falling into place. And it just didn’t seem to fit.”
Among other pilots that failed to make the cut were 17th Precinct, a police drama set in the world where magic is real (sort of like Grimm), and starring Jamie Bamber and Tricia Helfer from Battlestar Galactica. Help Wanted was another doomed pilot, starring Sarah Paulson who plays a woman with relationship issues and guides the newly unemployed through career counseling. The last one was a comedy I Hate That I Love You, in which a straight couple introduces their lesbian friends to each other, resulting in instant attraction and a pregnancy. It would be fantastic to have another show that lesbians are not just some minor characters, but judging by reviews, the plot and stories sounded cliché and the main characters were not a lesbian equivalent of Mitch and Cam in Modern Family.
