Oh Frankie.
Frankie normally laughing and joking with everyone outside of home was quiet and could not speak for nerves. “do you want anything to eat?” “Oh no thanks I’m fine.” They sat down in a booth away from the counter and the windows. Frankie felt awkward, “so Frankie you are still watching me from afar,” Cat was matter of fact and so up front Frankie nearly choked on her coffee. “Well eh… not watching but eh… well admiring I’m admiring you from afar.” Frankie thought she would have to be up front about it risk Cat’s disgust and anger. “Funny that because I’ve been admiring you from afar too, when you stand on that landing looking down at me I get a fine view of you too and I like what I see.” Fankie did choke this time, she spluttered and coughed grabbing a serviette from the holder she covered her mouth. Cat was laughing, “did you think I hadn’t noticed you? I noticed you the first day when I came out of that classroom from Mrs Weatherall’s that time.”
Cat had a girlfriend but Frankie kept asking her to be with her and give up Charlie but Cat refused but as they spent more and more time together Cat eventually finished with Charlie for Frankie.
Cat and Frankie were together as much as they could be, in the summer holidays they went to Cat’s Granny’s house, Cat had a key to get in to mind Clark the cat, “She named him after the actor Clark Gable,” Cat informed Frankie. It was here in Cat’s Granny’s that they went futher than just a kiss. Frankie was 15 and Cat 17 they had made love all afternoon, it was the first time Cat had really accepted how she felt about Frankie, despite kissing and a bit of fumbling there had been nothing becuase Cat was still with Charlie, Cat had drawn away when Frankie had made advances before this time telling her she was with someone, it had caused a row but Frankie was in love she told Cat she was sorry and she could wait forever. Cat passed her exams and went onto do her highers passing these she wanted to go onto university but by now she and Frankie were together for three years and they didn’t want to be seperated. The inevitable did happen and Cat went to study architecture in Edinburgh, Frankie was upset but it wasn’t too bad to get to and from Glasgow, “I could have gone to London but I didn’t,” Frankie was bemoaning that she hardly got to see Cat in the week. Frankie didn’t do so well in her exams but did pass her art and film studies with very good grades, she decided to take a photography course at college and was so good at it she was offered work by a local photographer at weekends. Cat finished at uni and moved back to Glasgow taking a job in a firm in the city. She learned a lot from it and moved on to another firm. Frankie had moved into a bedsit to get away from her uncle, he was still violent towards her and had slapped her on many occasions. Frankie had got to know Cat’s parents and brother very well. She was very fond of Ed who was three years younger than her, Cat had told her her Mum had given up hope of Cat having a brother or sister and then found she was pregnant with Ed, Cat had been delighted but was disappointed at first that it was a boy. Jerry and Judy had no idea of the relationship between Frankie and Cat until Cat was at uni, they had found it hard to accept but Jerry had said if Cat was happy so was he. Judy had said, “Cat you don’t look like one of those, Frankie does, oh…oh no offence Frankie but well you know how you dress,” ” None taken Judy,” Cat was mortified and had chastised her Mum for what she had said.
