    Completely Incomplete – (Chapter: 15)

    “Michelle told you, I’m assuming?”

    “I didn’t say anything.”

“Don’t worry. I won’t tell on you,” she said with a smile, which I reciprocated immediately.

    “Ash?”

    “Yeah?”

    “Thanks.”

“No problem,” she replied. I took a deep breath before clarifying what I had meant.

“Really, though. The past several months have been really… well, really crappy for me… and just, like, lonely. And then you called, and I know this sounds cheesy but it… it cheered me up. And now that you’re here… I feel… I don’t know… I feel like I’m having fun again,” I admitted. Before I had time to feel embarrassed for saying all of that, I felt her arms wrap themselves around me, and I leaned into the embrace. For the first time in a very long time, I allowed myself to let go around her. I buried my face into the crook of her neck, expecting the tears to come rushing out… but they didn’t. I felt more cared about than I had since the last time I saw my family. We held on like that for quite some time, and when we finally pulled apart, she planted a gentle kiss on my cheek.

“I’m always here for you, Spence. Always. Even if it’s, like, 3am and you can’t fall asleep and you just want to talk to someone… I’m there. No matter what.”

“Thank you,” I told her as I smiled, holding back tears. She smiled back, softly brushing my cheek with her palm and fingers.

“And if you ever need anything… anything at all. I’ll always be there.”

“Why?” I couldn’t help but ask.

“That’s the first dumb question I’ve heard you ask so far.”

    “No… no, it’s not.”

“Yes it is,” she insisted. “The past is the past, Spence. What’s done is done. No need to dwell on it, right?”

“Okay.” I knew we were both talking about my leaving for Nashville for college.

“You know, when I was in rehab, my shrink kept telling me that I always focused on the things that went wrong… on the negative. He said that I should try to think about the good in everything… like glass-half-full and all that. That was probably the one good piece of advice I ever got from a shrink. I mean, it’s totally true. Especially, like, with us. I mean, the good stuff that happened completely outweighs whatever bad stuff happened… so we really just have to remember everything we did right whenever we happen to think of what went wrong. And we did a lot right.”

    1. *Corkscrews cape a’flying* Woah, what a does. Our emotions can get the best of us sometimes. I suppose its a good thing that i’m Superman and c-can’t g-g-get d-d-distract–ed b-by some-some–thing li-like beau-beautiful wri-writin-g. I smell kryptonite. M’lady, i need to fly away, while I can still stand *swoosh*

    2. God damn. You are good. It’s hard to believe a normal person can write like that. Have you been biten by a radioactive spider lately? Been exposed to toxic chemicals? I don’t know what to think. Of course if you WERE biten and became super human that would be cool. And it would explain the phenonmanal writing. But I bet you’d be able to write a great story with out the help of some tiny arachnid. Please keep posting. Please. I need you to. It’s a passion, a craving, an urge. Post, post, post! Please/ And I do realize I sound super needy. Even more needy than Spencer. That girl is desperate for Ashley like I’m desperate for an update. Love you. Thx in advance. =)

    3. Uh. Was a simple kiss supposed to make my heart beat three times faster. I must remember never to read your stories hooked up to a heart monitor or I may find myself booked in for a pacemaker operation. I would like to say that I saw barely_breathing’s name on the comment and thought, ‘yup, i’m barely breathing’. You are amazing. This line in particular, caught my eye: “When I was with her, I started to feel like a complete person again.” Nice shout out to the story name, and yes, we noticed :) You’re winding me up in this story and it’s getting tighter. Is it too much to ask for more kisses? I know you’ll deliver :) LOVE YOUR WORK!

    4. *refocuses eyes and picks jaw up off the floor* Alright, so during that entire post I was crouched about 3 inches away from my computer screen. Amazing how your writing keeps doing that. Awesome stuff.
