“I love you Ashley, but you make it… so damn hard… to be with you,” I admitted as I felt tears cloud my eyes. I came to the realization at that moment that I would forgive her. Not only had she obviously gone great lengths to prevent me from leaving Chicago, but she was painstakingly sincere. For the most part, I believed that she hadn’t slept with Stella. But how stupid could she be? Hiring her to basically work next to her on a daily basis? And not even tell me? I had to leave; what else was I supposed to do? She had crossed the line with this one… I didn’t know why I was going to take her back. Well, scratch that. Of course I did. I loved her.
“I know,” she replied with a nod. We sat in an awkward silence for a few minutes as neither of us really knew where to go next. “So… what does this mean… for us? If there still is an ‘us,’ I mean…”
“I don’t know. I really don’t,” I told her convincingly. Of course there was still an ‘us.’ Our relationship meant too much to let this be it, but I figured after all of the shit she put me through, I should get to mess with her head for a little.
“I never meant for this to happen, and I’m so sorry that it did,” she said, refusing to look me in the eye as she stared down at her hands. A few more moments of silence passed before she pulled out her cell phone and began dialing.
“Who are you calling?”
“I’m just… getting you your flight home.” Okay, I guess that was enough messing with her head for now…
“Put the phone down,” I told her. She flipped it shut and looked up at me, her tearful eyes filled with what appeared to be hope. I scooted my chair closer to hers. “Ash, we’re not over, okay? We have a lot of stuff we have to talk about but I’m willing to try to work things out… that is, if you are, too.” She nodded before I wrapped her in a hug; I could feel her holding tears back.
“Thank you,” she said. We remained in a hug for a while longer and when we pulled apart she briefly kissed my cheek.

First off, I just wan to say that I am SOOOOOO HAPPY that you are finally back, I just LOVE your stories. Second, I can’t believe that Mr. C has cancer. He can’t have cancer, he is a great dad and I really wish that he was my dad. I just hope that he can get rid of it and NOT die. I hope that Ashley and Spencer will be okay and that Spencer will not get depressed about her dad. Just post the next chapter real soon.
