    i’m baaaaaack…. the sequel to ‘hanging by a moment’

    But the moon is slowly rising

    So this old world must still be spinning ‘round

    And I still love you

     

    So close your eyes

    You can close your eyes, it’s all right

    I don’t know no love songs

    And I can’t sing the blues anymore-‘

     

    “I know this song,” Spencer said. She rarely interrupted so I waited for her to continue. “My mom used to sing this to me when I was little.” Well, that’s awkward.

    “Oh…”

    “No, keep singing. I like it better when you sing it anyway,” she confessed as she took hold of my hand.

    ‘So close your eyes

    You can close your eyes, it’s all right

    I don’t know no love songs

    And I can’t sing the blues anymore

    But I can sing this song

    And you can sing this song, when I’m gone

     

    It won’t be long before another day

    We gonna have a good time

    And no one’s gonna take that time away

    You can stay as long as you like

    I sang until I knew she was asleep and then comfortably drifted off to sleep myself. It seemed odd that I would think of singing a song her mother used to sing to her but I shrugged it off. Weirder things have happened, right?

    I was awoken what seemed to be only a few minutes later; in reality, we had already landed and I was so out of it that Spencer had to shake me to wake me up. I grudgingly got up.

    “Remind me again why this trip was necessary?”

    “It’s Thanksgiving,” she replied.

    “And we could have had a nice Thanksgiving spent sleeping. In New York.”

    “But you love me,” she grinned. I shrugged jokingly, and she playfully slapped my arm in response. I kissed her briefly as we wheeled our bags over to the pick-up area.

    “Girls! Over here!” We were greeted by a jubilant Mr. Carlin, standing in front of his car.

    “Dad!” Spencer exclaimed before jumping into her father’s arms. She was her father’s daughter, clearly.

    “Ashley!” he called out; in moments I found myself in the midst of another Carlin hug.

    “Hey Mr. C!” After releasing me from his rather intense embrace, he took a minute to glance at me and Spencer, as if to make sure we hadn’t gotten any piercings or been facially mauled since we’d seen him last. He beamed before lifting our bags into the trunk.

He can’t have cancer, he is a great dad and I really wish that he was my dad. I just hope that he can get rid of it and NOT die. I hope that Ashley and Spencer will be okay and that Spencer will not get depressed about her dad. Just post the next chapter real soon.
