"Yes, and then we’ll go for a walk," Tina said excitedly. "Check out some of the markets and wine stores."
"I could only get a dinner reservation for six o’clock," Bette said. "Apparently a lot of people travel from LA for weekends."
"Early dinner means early to bed. Nothing wrong with that on our holiday away."
They exited out the back door of their suite to the garden area. They were surrounded on all sides either by the building, or various plants, shrubs and perennials that were obviously well tended.
"Your back yard could be like this," Tina said.
"I don’t have the time or the inclination to make my back yard look like this," Bette replied. "It takes skill and fortitude to accomplish a garden this involved.
"It doesn’t happen over night," Tina said. "But step by step, section by section, you work on a vision."
"I suspect they have hired someone to do the more mundane tasks associated with a project this size. All I want to do is sit and enjoy it, not weed it."
"I could weed it," Tina offered. "Your yard, as lovely as it is, is a bit sparse for plant life."
"What I have is what I have time for," Bette said. "You don’t even have a single house plant, why are you so enamored of having a garden?"
"My parents have a beautiful garden," Tina said. "It’s what I miss most about home. Other than the people of course."
By now they were sitting at the wrought iron patio set that was nestled between a hedge and a flower bed.
"If you have those skills, you are welcome to put them to use in my yard," Bette said.
"Be careful what you offer; I’ll take you up on it."
"I only say things I mean. I wasn’t being flippant," Bette replied. "I would love to have your touch grace my garden."
"Imagine going out to pick the ingredients for a meal," Tina let her mind wander. "Fresh salad, asparagus, tomatoes. Peach cobbler for dessert…"
"We’re going to a greenhouse this week, aren’t we?"
"Probably several greenhouses," Tina confirmed. "You’re going to be amazed at the transformation."
