"I couldn’t help but notice."
"I think it’s time to start getting you liquored up," Bette rose and reached to hold Tina’s hand as she stood.
"Let’s get this holiday started," Tina replied.
They walked hand in hand towards what was considered the main street of the quaint California town, both intent on enjoying their extended time together, away from any responsibilities.

"Would you like to walk around before we head back to the B & B?" Bette asked.
"A short walk is alright," Tina said. "But I think I need to get you to bed."
"Are you perhaps a tiny bit inebriated?"
"I am plenty lubricated and ready for some quality vacation time," Tina replied. "Perfect way to end a perfect day."
"It was a great day. You don’t see those little independent bookstores in the big city anymore," Bette noted. "We should go back tomorrow."
"I’m sure the band performance in the park has been planned for months, but it seemed so impromptu. So small town."
"You have no choice but to slow down when you’re in a place like this."
"Says she who never leaves the confines of her car," Tina retorted.
"There’s not much within walking distance for me," Bette defended.
"If we keep having wine with every meal, we won’t have any choice but to walk while we’re here."
"Baked goods and fermented grapes," Bette replied. "We’ve had more carbs today than we usually have in a week."
"You realize how addictive they are when this is how you feel afterwards."
"High?"
"I’m floating a bit, yeah," Tina confirmed.
"Me too. We’ll add some endorphins before sleep and be guaranteed to wake up refreshed.
"You’re not annoyed with our earlier conversation?" Tina asked.
"We haven’t been dating very long," Bette said. "I understand your reticence."
"You’ve never lived with anyone and the majority of the time since we met has been the busiest of my professional career."
"I haven’t lived with anyone before because I haven’t met anyone I wanted to share my life with," Bette said. She knew she was taking a chance – but she assumed Tina’s mood would be smoothed out by her alcohol consumption. "When you do meet that person, you don’t want to wait a moment longer than you have to."
