Can we get it back – Chapter 12

Why am I here again?” Bette thinks to herself. “Was it all a dream?” Thoughts keep coming and she feel herself panicking. The machines starts to beep because of the pulse going up. That makes Tina look over to the bed and sees Bette’s open eyes.

“Oh, Bette, you’re awake? Hey, calm down. The surgery went well.” Tina says, trying to calm her down. “Breathe sweetie.” Tina tries. Just then a nurse comes rushing in.

“What’s going on?” The nurse asks.

“She woke up and suddenly the heartrate went up. Don’t know why.” Tina says concerned as she let the nurse check on her.

“Ms. Porter, are you in any pain?” The nurse asks.

Bette is unable to reply right away. But after a few moments she starts to relax and can say no.

“No.” Bette replies, taking deep breaths to calm herself down. Tina lets out a breath she didn’t know she held when Bette answers.

“Okay then. Just stay calm and relax. Sleep when you’re sleepy.” The nurse says and walks out.

“Hey sweetie. What happened?” Tina asks concerned. Angie hanging back to give mama B space to answer Tina.

“I panicked. Is this the wake up from the tumor operation?” Bette asks slowly.

“No, that was two weeks ago. You had a seizure last night and they found a small bleed, so that is the operation you are waking up from now.” Tina explains and Bette visibly relaxes.

“Oh, I thought…” Bette slowly says as she closes her eyes. “The last two weeks… they happened? You…” Bette starts but stops, unable to say the last sentence.

“Yes, sweetie, those happened and yes, I am back.” Tina says with a loving smile as she understood what Bette wanted to know. “You woke up back in the hospital and thought you had dreamt it all?” Tina whispers as she leans down close to Bette’s face.

“Yeah. I panicked. I’m sorry.” Bette says and starts to cry.

“Hey, babe, please don’t cry. Shh…. Shh.” Tina tries to comfort her.

“Why is this happening to me?” She cries as Tina leans her mouth onto her forehead and keep it there, placing small soft kisses every few seconds while holding onto her hand, softly rubbing her thumb over Bette’s fingers.

“You’ll be okay Bette. I will make sure of it.” Tina whispers. “We’ll get you through this.” She adds.

    1. Whew….a small stroke.. okay… no damage. That’s good.. Another surgery and more recovery time. That’s about as good as it gets under the circumstances. I feel like Shane…just put my heart in my throat when I heard it. Hopefully Bette is on the road to recovery.

Poor Bette – thought two weeks was a dream. At least Bette will now believe that Tina really is here for her. Now its on the road to recovery and then the road to reconciliation…

Great Story….but I need my heart pills close for the drama you write. I think that’s a good thing. Keep it up.

    2. That was a close call. I feared that the second surgery affected Bette’s memory or ability to speak.
She still has a long way to go.

Won’t be easy for the family to settle to something like normalcy.
