Angie seemed a bit shocked.

Angie:  I cannot imagine having sex with a complete stranger. I cannot imagine having sex with anyone which I didn’t love.

Bette: Well, with too much alcohol, it has certainly happened to a lot of people. So, your mother and I have decided that if you wish, you may join us when we have an alcoholic beverage when we are at home.  If we are out at friends’ homes or at a restaurant, then we will abide by the law and you will refrain from those adult beverages.  The purpose of this is to let you see what the effect of alcohol is on your body. Now we will restrict the amount you consume as we do not want a sick child on our hands. You may decide that you do not want to indulge. That is fine. Or you may decide that you really enjoy it. That is when you need to be aware of how it affects you.  You are the biological child of Tina and of a donor. In every family there are alcoholics. An alcoholic is an addiction to alcohol and it is pass on genetically but it can also be a developed disease. An alcoholic is a person who feels the need to consume alcohol on a daily basis in quantities which inhibits their normal daily functions. For the most part, complete abstinence from alcohol is the only cure. We can talk about that some other time if you would like.

Angie:  Really, you are going to let me drink wine and beer here at the house?

Tina:  Yes, within reason. But if we see you getting where you are exhibiting drunken behavior, then we are going to cut you off. To begin with you may have only one serving per day. That is one beer or one glass of wine.  You may have this beverage in the late afternoon or the evening. Now some people get very sleepy after an alcoholic beverage. So, if you have any needs to do any studying or papers to write, then I suggest you wait until a time when you are ready to relax or retire for the day. We will see how this goes and we will talk more about it as time goes on.
