    Chapter 10

    Tina shrugs as she reaches for some pita.

    (Tina) It was the amount you took from my friend

    She smiles over at Bette.

    (Tina) Plus interest

    Bette smiles and picks up her wine.

    (Bette) You obviously showed some restraint in not taking more, but were you perhaps still a little generous with that interest calculation?

    (Tina smiles) Maybe

    She spreads some fava dip on the bread and glances to Bette out of the corner of her eye.

    (Tina) I was also angry with you

    She turns to Bette and shrugs.

    (Tina) And hurt

    They look at each other for a moment.

    (Tina) That may have factored into my calculation. And my reaction, I guess

    Bette nods as she examines her for a moment.

    Tina has a sip of wine and looks at the view for a moment. She then looks to Bette and raises her eyebrows.

    (Tina) I’ve never done anything quite like that before

    Bette looks at her curiously, and Tina shrugs.

    (Tina) I don’t usually steal from individuals, and certainly not from people sleeping right there across the room

    Tina smiles and shrugs, and Bette smiles back at her.

    (Bette) That must have been very stressful for you

    Tina laughs and leans her elbow on the bench, looking over at Bette and smiling.

    (Tina) It was actually

    Bette laughs, and they smile at each other.

    Tina looks away and plays with her wine stem for a moment, and then glances to Bette and smiles.

    (Tina) But can I admit it was also kind of fun?

    Bette gives a small laugh and they smile at each other.

    (Bette) It was a bit of a thrill for you?

    Tina raises her eyebrows and nods, and Bette smiles back at her.

    (Bette) Well I’m glad you enjoyed yourself, even if it was at my expense

    Tina smiles at her, and Bette raises an eyebrow.

    (Bette) Literally at my expense

    Tina laughs and Bette smiles. Tina reaches for an olive and looks to her.

    (Tina) Do you find it stressful? Doing what you do?

    (Bette smiles) You get used to it

    (Tina smiles) And you get something from it too? I mean other than the financial benefit. Is it fun for you?

    (Bette smiles) Yes. It’s a cheap thrill though

    2. I believe Bette is in this for something other than a financial reward. I think that she is incredibly attracted to Tina and wants her in her life. But, the only way that can happen is to put the stolen money aside and just be with Tina in the moment. No plans, no objectives, just enjoy what is and hope there will be more. And when Tina feels that Bette is not a threat, she too will want the same thing.

      Great story… thank you for the posting.

    3. Interesting turn of events.

      Still feel that Tina is holding back and only in this for the short term.

      Hopefully Bette can convince her to consider them being together.

    4. I’m wondering how committed Tina is to develop a relationship with Bette. She doesn’t appear to want to provide any info to Bette while Bette seems to be interested in starting a relationship.

      Just wondering.
