They sit in silence for a while, Tina flicking through the paper as they eat their breakfast and sip on their coffees. Tina frowns and picks up the paper from the bench, looking at it more closely.

(Tina) Baby, Alice wrote this article

(Bette smiles) Yes, she writes for them a lot now. She didn’t mention it?

Tina laughs as she continues scanning the article.

(Tina) No she didn’t, that’s so great

(Bette smiles) Yes, she’s doing really well

Tina shakes her head with a smile and then continues reading the paper. Bette has a sip of coffee and watches her for a while before speaking.

(Bette) So, Angie is back this afternoon

Tina looks up and meets her eyes.

(Tina) I remember

(Bette) If it’s OK I’d like to talk to you about how to approach things with her. What we should tell her

Tina puts down the newspaper and nods.

(Tina) Yes, sure, we can do that

Bette looks down at her coffee for a moment before raising her eyes to meet Tina’s.

(Bette) I don’t think we can continue keeping her from you. She already suspected something before she left, and if she doesn’t see you once she’s back she’ll worry even more. Who knows where her mind will go

Tina nods as she considers this.

(Tina) What are you thinking then?

Bette takes a breath and looks at her for a moment.

(Bette) I think we should tell her the truth about what’s going on

Tina raises her eyebrows and looks back at her.

(Bette) We don’t know how long this situation is going to go on for, and if she spends any time with you at all she’ll figure out that you don’t know her. I’d love to keep her in the dark on this but she’s just too clever

Tina nods and frowns.

(Tina) OK, you’ve thought about how to do that?

Bette nods.

(Bette) I’ll pick her up this afternoon and then I can tell her. I think we should give her the weekend to process it, and to ask me any questions. And then maybe you could come over on Sunday night and we can all talk about it together

Tina looks at her for a moment and then nods.
