    Chapter 13

(Bette) Can you seriously not think of a single other thing to talk to me about?

Alice glances at Shane and Dana, and then looks back to Bette.

(Alice) Well, give us a second. We just thought we were probably coming here to talk about that

She pauses for a sip a beer.

(Alice) We also can’t ask you for a work update. And you’ve basically been doing nothing recently, so no updates there either. I mean nothing other than seeing…

Bette looks at her and Alice clears her throat.

(Alice) Anyway, you’ve really taken away our go to conversation topics

They fall into silence for another moment. Dana turns to Bette.

(Dana) Have you had any more appointments recently?

    Alice points towards Dana.

    (Alice) Good one

They all look to Bette, and she looks between them and smiles.

(Bette) I have, I’m at the hospital most days

(Alice) There hasn’t been any progress though?

    Bette shakes her head.

(Bette) No. They’re actually wanting me to start some different therapy approaches this week. I don’t know much about it yet, but they’ll take me through it in my appointment on Monday

(Shane) Are they getting worried your memory hasn’t returned yet?

(Bette) I wouldn’t say worried, but they were I think hoping for something by now. They’re wanting to see if this might give me a jolt I guess

The next evening, Bette is lying in a sunlounger by her pool, sipping on a whiskey. The doorbell rings and she leans her head back into the headrest, closing her eyes and shaking her head. She remains in position, making no move to answer the door.

After a short while she tunes in to the sound of footsteps coming down the hallway, and she opens her eyes and looks towards the patio door as she hears it slide open.

Bette raises her eyebrows as Tina appears in the doorway, and they hold each other’s gaze for a long moment.

(Bette) I told you that key would come in handy

Tina smiles and leans on the doorframe.

(Tina) I rang the doorbell. I’m sorry to just let myself in but I got a bit worried about you, I’ve been trying to call you today

    Comments

    1. Seeing a new part made my day. Thank you!

What a sweet scene at the end! :-)
Favourite quote: “(Bette) Fall in love with someone else (Tina) Give me another ten years, I might manage it”

    2. Glad Tina ended her engagement and realized Sarah deserved someone who loved her. I know they are the same character, but I am going to miss this Bette with Tina. We really don’t know the current Bette other than she doesn’t want Tina in her life. Another great chapter, always looking forward to the next.
