    Chapter 14

(Bette) How did she even get there?

    Tina glances at Angelica.

(Tina) Oh, I don’t know actually

Bette walks towards the coatstand near her office door and reaches for her handbag and coat.

(Bette) I’m leaving now, I’ll pick her up in 20 minutes. I just need to…

    Tina interrupts her.

    (Tina) Hold on

Bette pauses and waits for her to continue.

(Tina) I think she wants to talk to me, and I’d like to spend some time with her too. I know school is important but how would you feel about letting her spend the day with me?

Bette stands still for a moment as she considers this. She replaces her handbag on the coatstand and walks back to her desk and sits down.

    (Bette nods) OK

    (Tina) Yeah?

    (Bette) Yeah

    (Tina smiles) Thank you

Bette nods and takes a breath.

    (Bette) Tee?

    (Tina) Yes… Bette

    Bette smiles.

    (Bette) Nice save

Tina smiles and glances again towards Angelica.

(Bette) I don’t know what she’s going to want to talk to you about, but if she wants to know details from back then, about our relationship, you can feel free to tell her whatever you like

    (Tina frowns) Really?

Tina holds up a finger to Angelica and makes her way to Alice’s spare bedroom, shutting the door behind her.

(Tina) I was planning on steering clear of that topic really. From how she was talking the other night she doesn’t seem to know anything about us as a couple. I assumed you had your reasons, and I was going to respect that

(Bette sighs) I appreciate it, but no, there are no reasons

Bette leans her elbow on her desk and rubs her forehead.

(Bette) Honestly I think we’ve both avoided the topic with her because it’s just too painful to talk about. But if Angie’s interested and has sought you out now, then I think it’s fine for you to answer any questions she has about back then

    Tina nods as she listens.

(Bette) I think it might be good for her to see evidence of something between us other than hostility. And what better evidence than you

    (Tina smiles) OK

(Bette) OK. Well tell her I’ll pick her up after work

    (Tina smiles) Sure

    1. It’s nice to pretend sometimes, i agree with Angie.
Glad Angie came to see Tina and them talking a bit about the past and future.

I am still so curious what happened between Bette & Tina that they acted so hostile to each other and why was Tina crying a lot?

      Love this story!

    2. I think this is a good first step for Angie and Tina. It has to be really awkward for Angie to be dealing with a parent whom you have lived with and known all of your life and has no memory of anything about you and your life together. Nor does she have any memory of anything else that has occurred for the last 15 years. How to you communicate with someone like that whom you love dearly and and you know she loves you? And as for Tina, she is in that place of being drawn to Angie and want to know her and yet she does not want to make the situation more stressful for Angie or for Bette. Tina uses her common sense and instincts to make her way through this situation yet knowing there are land mines of unknown magnitude everywhere. And Bette and Tina are dealing with a 12 year old child. And both want only the best for Angie… and everyone is in the dark as to what that is. The one thing that is true about Bette universally in every story told: Bette will never deny Angie and Tina time together. I also think that Angie’s comment that neither of her mothers would allow Angie to diminish the character of the other parent with demeaning comments or discussions even though they were no longer a couple. That was huge… not all divorced parents conduct themselves in that manner..

      Thanks for the chapter…
