    Chapter 14

Shane nods while she considers this. She turns to Bette.

(Shane) I’m not sure you should give up on this just yet

Bette looks at her and gives a sarcastic laugh.

    (Bette) Shane

(Shane smiles) I’m serious. I haven’t given up on it

Bette smiles at her and shakes her head.

(Shane) If you really don’t think she’s understood how happy you were with how things have been, don’t you think you should try and explain that to her?

    Bette sighs.

(Bette) Well, the problem is, I’ve been thinking a lot about everything since she left. If we were to continue there are some things I’d want to change. And I think the moment I started talking like that she’d run anyway

    Bette shrugs.

    (Bette) So what’s the point?

(Shane frowns) What would you want to change?

    Bette looks over at her.

(Bette) I’d want to drop the casual label

Shane raises her eyebrows and nods.

(Shane) That’d be a lot for her, right?

(Bette sighs) Yes, too much for her I think

(Shane) And very important to you?

    Bette sighs.

(Bette) I just don’t think it’s an accurate description of what we’ve been doing. And why not call it what it is?

    (Shane) A relationship?

    Bette rubs her forehead.

(Bette) I don’t know. I guess if it’s not casual, then yes, it’s a relationship

(Shane) And that’s important to you? To call it that?

(Bette) Honestly, not really. It’s more that I think calling it casual has put all of these restrictions on how we’re able to behave, and what we’re able to say to each other.  I want to tell her how I feel about her, and for her to tell me without worrying that that’s against these stupid rules of ours. Why can’t she tell me that she’s fallen for me. Why does that have to be some terrible thing that we’re not supposed to say?

    Shane raises her eyebrows.

(Shane) She said she’s fallen for you?

Bette turns to her and can’t help the smile forming on her face.

    (Bette) Yeah

Shane smiles at her. Bette then sighs and looks to her beer.

(Bette) Then she panicked and left

    Shane nods.

    (Shane) Right

Shane has a sip of her beer and looks out over the water, and then focuses back on Bette.

(Shane) Bette, you need to talk to her

(Bette) She won’t talk to me, what am I supposed to do?

(Shane shrugs) Ambush her at work again?

    Bette laughs.

(Bette) I’m not doing that again. I can’t believe I did it in the first place

    (Shane laughs) Neither can I

They smile at each other. Bette shakes her head and they both have a sip of beer. Bette then looks down at her bottle and frowns.

(Bette) I’m not going to contact her again

She raises her eyes and meets Shane’s.

(Bette) She’s not interested in continuing even what we were doing. When I wasn’t actually asking anything of her. Now that I’d want to, there’s no chance she wouldn’t run

    Bette shrugs.

(Bette) She told me from the start what she wanted from this, and what she didn’t want. And I need to accept that

Bette has a sip of beer and looks out over the water.

(Bette) It’s time to move on

    1. No no it can’t end this way. But i agree with Bette that she shouldn’t contact Tina, let Tina contact Bette and stop running away. They are clearly in love with each other and i don’t know why Tina is so against commitment and a relationship but i hope she will think about it hard and reach out to Bette. It would break my heart if Bette is going to move on.

Looking forward to the next chapter.

    2. This is Tina’s panic and her reaction to her own feelings for Bette. So she calls it off. Okay. I cannot imagine that Tina is really happy with her decision. I cannot imagine that she does not fall asleep every night without thinking about Bette. Time for Tina to decide if she is really happy with a series of meaningless relationship for the rest of her days or something meaningful which she obviously has with Bette. Bette should not contact Tina. If she does not hear from Tina within a month or so, then sit down and write her a letter expressing how much she enjoyed their time together. Then say good bye and wish her well. Something short, sweet and to the point. Perhaps this will give Bette closure on this episode in her life.

      Thanks for the chapter…

    3. Is Tina sick or something? Is she dying and will only live 10yrs?? Whyyyyyy so scared to commit???? C’mon Tee!! Come back!

Thanks, K! Been checkin’ everyday for new chaps. :)
