Chapter 14
(Shane) Hey
(Bette) Hey
(Shane) Company?
Bette smiles and nods.
(Bette) We can sit by the pool
They both move to the loungers by the pool, and Shane opens two beers and hands one to Bette.
(Shane) Do you want to talk about it? We obviously don’t have to
Bette has a sip of her beer and nods.
(Bette) We can talk about it
Shane nods.
(Shane) When did she end it?
(Bette) A couple of weeks ago
(Shane) And have you spoken since?
Bette shakes her head.
(Bette) No. I tried to contact her for a while afterwards, but I’ve stopped now
Shane looks at her for a long moment.
(Shane) You really think it’s over then?
Bette sighs and has a sip of beer as she looks over the water. She looks to Shane and nods.
(Bette) It’s over
(Shane) I’m sorry Bette. I really wanted this for you. I’ve never seen you so happy with a person
Bette smiles and focuses on her beer, looking downwards for a long moment.
(Bette) It was more than just how I feel about her. It was the situation too. It suited me. I’ve said that to you before, and it’s still true now
Bette pauses for a sip of beer.
(Bette) She never really understood that. That I wasn’t tolerating our arrangement and always hoping for more. It was working for me too
(Shane) What about it was working for you?
(Bette) I liked us treating it as in the moment. Not focusing on the future. I really have never been so happy, and relaxed and at ease
Shane smiles.
(Shane) I know, we all saw it
Bette smiles at her.
(Bette) Relationships have never worked for me. I’ve always found them suffocating, the very few times I’ve allowed something to progress to that stage. They can start out fine and then after a time I just can’t breathe anymore
She looks to Shane.
(Bette) What we’ve been doing has been so different. And I could breathe
Shane nods and has a sip of beer, before turning back to her.
(Shane) What’s going on for her do you think? Where do her boundaries come from?
(Bette sighs) I don’t think there’s some big reason that she hasn’t shared with me, some thing from her past. I think she just doesn’t want anything more, that that might just be her. She’s so in the moment generally, I think this is probably a part of that. It makes sense to me really, that a traditional committed relationship doesn’t really suit her

No no it can’t end this way. But i agree with Bette that she shouldn’t contact Tina, let Tina contact Bette and stop running away. They are clearly in love with each other and i don’t know why Tina is so against commitment and a relationship but i hope she will think about it hard and reach out to Bette. It would break my heart if Bette is going to move on.
Looking forward to the next chapter.
I agree wholeheartedly with Bibi’s Comment.
Bette should not contact Tina. Please do not let this be the end.
Post more soon.
SG
This is Tina’s panic and her reaction to her own feelings for Bette. So she calls it off. Okay. I cannot imagine that Tina is really happy with her decision. I cannot imagine that she does not fall asleep every night without thinking about Bette. Time for Tina to decide if she is really happy with a series of meaningless relationship for the rest of her days or something meaningful which she obviously has with Bette. Bette should not contact Tina. If she does not hear from Tina within a month or so, then sit down and write her a letter expressing how much she enjoyed their time together. Then say good bye and wish her well. Something short, sweet and to the point. Perhaps this will give Bette closure on this episode in her life.
Thanks for the chapter…
Is Tina sick or something? Is she dying and will only live 10yrs?? Whyyyyyy so scared to commit???? C’mon Tee!! Come back!
Thanks, K! Been checkin’ everyday for new chaps. :)
Oh please don’t let this be the end. I love this story. Tina need to realize what’s she’s walked away from.
