    Chapter 16

    (Tina) I like that

    Bette smiles.

(Tina) And I like the idea of trying to puzzle something together that suits us both

(Bette smiles) And with no consideration whatsoever for anyone else’s opinion on that. As we’ve also been doing this whole time

Tina smiles and nods. She then looks down at their hands for a moment, frowning and deep in thought.

(Bette) Tell me what you’re worried about

    Tina sighs.

(Tina) I just feel like I know how this ends. Despite what you’re saying now

(Bette) How do you know that? How it will end?

(Tina) Because I’ve done this before, had this conversation before. There have been times in the past that I’ve let an arrangement drift into something else, and this is familiar to me

    Bette frowns as she listens.

(Tina) We agree on something now, on certain terms. You say that you’re fine with it, and I agree to it, and then the boundaries get pushed and pushed until I find myself in a situation where I’ve lost myself completely. Until I’m not able to recognise myself anymore

    Bette looks at her.

(Bette) You’ve never done this with me before

Tina examines her for a moment.

(Tina) Bette, you’re fine with how things are now. And I believe that you are. But think about it moving forward, for you. There’s no guarantee of anything with me

    Tina shrugs.

(Tina) People like making plans. They like promises, vows, security. Declarations of where something is going, what it might look like in the future

Bette looks down for a moment, and then raises her eyes and meets her gaze.

(Bette) You need to trust me. Trust me when I tell you this is what I want, that I’m being honest with you. That I’m not going to push you towards something you don’t want. That I’m not up to anything

(Tina) What if you change your mind? We do this for a while and then you want more?

(Bette) I don’t think that will happen but I guess I can’t guarantee it

    Bette smiles.

(Bette) Anyway, we’d be treating it as in the moment, wouldn’t we? So let’s not worry about it. If that happens, let’s deal with it then

Tina smiles at her as she takes her in.

    Comments

    1. Okay…. an exclusive relationship which is not necessarily going anywhere? Whatever works. Glad they talked and worked it out. I’m not sure what they have decided anything except for the labels which represent what they are already experiencing and to continue and see where this goes. There are no expectations for the future. But there is an underlying desire that they will do the future together whatever that is.

      Thanks for the chapter…

    2. Wow, funny thing! They both feel the same way, want the same things. They just needed to express them. Why is Tina so dead set about a commitment ? Who hurt her so much? Glad to see your post. Keep them coming!

    3. Whew! What a cliff hanger you left us in 15. A new flavor to the Bette and Tina story is really appreciated!

As an aside, I wish you had added health issues/STDs as support for Bette’s exclusivity request. I don’t think we talk about or address STDs. Not all partners are “safe”. Remember we are a collection of all of our active partners.

Keep writing I really like you stories!
