    Chapter 17

(Tina) After you’ve gone through it all, and regardless of what it is, I want us to talk game plan

    (Bette frowns) Game plan?

    Tina nods slowly.

(Tina) Yes, how you are going to win me back

Bette smiles and then leans her head to one side and looks at her sadly.

(Bette) Tee, there’s no winning you back

Tina looks at her for a long moment.

(Tina) You’re still in love with me

Bette takes a breath and looks down at her wine glass, and Tina watches her.

(Tina) Is that something you’ve realised recently? Or have you always known?

Bette has a sip of wine and then looks over at her.

    (Bette) I’ve always known

They hold each other’s gaze for a long moment, before Bette looks down and sighs.

(Bette) Tee, it’s too far gone. It can’t be done

(Tina) When I first spoke to you on the phone in your office you seemed pretty far gone

    Bette looks back at her.

(Tina) Shane was right, I think this time we’ve spent together has been good for you

Bette continues watching her as she listens.

(Tina) I’ve seen a change in you as we’ve spent more and more time together. You may have known you still loved me, but I think you’ve realised that you want this back

Bette sighs and again looks to her wine.

(Bette) Tee, it just doesn’t matter

She looks up and meets Tina’s eyes.

(Bette) Once you’re back here properly, in the present day, you’ll remember why we’re not together. Why you don’t want to be together

Tina looks at her for a long moment.

(Tina) OK tell me then. What are my reasons? What happened between us that was so terrible that I can’t get past it

    (Bette) I cheated on you

    (Tina) Jesus

    Tina hits Bette’s arm.

(Tina) Why the fuck did you do that?

    (Bette) Ow!

    (Tina) Bette

    Bette raises her hands.

    (Bette) OK

They sit in silence for a moment, both gathering their thoughts. Tina turns to her.

(Tina) You cheated on me when Angie was a baby?

    Bette looks up at her.

(Bette) What? No. Not then. Before Angie. Why did you think that?

(Tina) Alice mentioned we’ve been separated since she was a baby

    Comments

    1. Wow, so much anger over events that happened a long time ago. Sometimes it’s easier to hang on the anger.

Maybe Tina had a mental breakdown like majicspider60 already mentioned.

Can they work this out after Tina is back in the present, is Bette willing to make a move when Tina doesn’t remember this time if she returns?

Thank you for this brilliant written story!

    2. I believe Tina is right…. they can work it out whether Tina remembers this relationship during her amnesia or not. The feelings and the desires are there in both instances. It is up to Bette to want to agree to give reconciliation or at least civility a try. Tina has already made movement in that direction… Bette just meet her halfway and talk to her. Find a way to drop the predisposition that she will still be angry. If you Bette make an effort to at least communicate and Tina responds, there is a chance to get over these hurtles. Most of all drop this idea that it cannot be fixed. Maybe it can…. You both need to try. Neither of you have anything to loose by trying…. You have a horrible relationship as it is. Talking can possibly make it better.

Thanks for the update… this is a very good story.

    3. It has been the same for so long that Bette feels there is no reason to try to fix all the wrongs between them, but I think she is willing to risk her heart to see Tina back in her life in some capacity as long as it is not hate filled anymore. Hopefully Tina does remember bits or feelings from her time with memory loss, so they can at least try to be better towards each other. Please post soon.
