    Chapter 18 – The Weekend – August 10 & 11

Bette then settled down in the media room and started through her work.  She loaded her brief case and she reviewed all her correspondence.

Tina was on her lap top studying the environmental rules on disposing petroleum base solutions.

Bette:  Well, tomorrow, I’m supposed to meet my assigned assistant and my assigned graduate student assistants. Next year, I get to pick my own.

Tina:  Well, it is what it is.  I just hope there are no problems.

    Bette:  What do you mean?

Tina:  You know, students get crushes on their professors and sometimes they make some inappropriate advances or comments.

Bette:  God, I hope not.  I haven’t got time to deal with that sort of crap.  I am there to do a job and I’ve got a wife whom I adore, waiting on me and a daughter and a son whom I want to be with every moment I can.  That type of behavior may have been excusable when I was not attached. But it is intolerable now for any reason.

    Tina:  Wow, that was strong.

Bette:  Well, it’s how I feel. I have no time for anyone outside of my family and friends except as it relates to the job I have been hired to do. So, I will have a professional relationship or there will be no relationship to my students, my assistants, my peers and my superiors. If they are going to be my friends, then they are going to be friends with the both of us, not just me.

Tina:  Well, thank you Bette. You know I’m not worried, don’t you?

Bette: I hope not. But I want you to know that there is nothing to worry about.  You are my only woman. You always have been and you always will be. You have my heart and I have yours and I will never do anything to damage either of them.

Tina:  I love you too Bette. And I know you would never do anything purposely to hurt us. And neither will I.

The kids arrived with the dinner and began to put it on the table.  Bette and Tina had a beer while Angie and Daniel had a bottle of green tea. They served themselves from the cartons of food and enjoyed themselves.  They talked about the possibility of going to Scotland on vacation next year. Angie was curious as to what they would do. After Bette and Tina explained that there were historic sites, a city of night life, a working farm and a golf course nearby, Angie was ready to pack her bags. Daniel laughed at her.  He knew that Angie was willing to travel anywhere and try just about anything as long as she was with her family. Daniel asked if Jordan or Shay would be on this trip. Bette said possibly. That excited Daniel.  Angie liked the idea as well.

After dinner the family settled into the media room where Bette finished up.  Tina continued her research; Angie and Daniel decided to read a book. They were both reading the Hunger Games Trilogy. Daniel had started it first as he had started it while waiting for Angie to have her driving test.

They went to bed early as once again they had all missed their nap. Tomorrow was another early morning.
