Chapter 2 – Philadelphia – Day 1
Bette: Thank you Julie. Now when do you go to lunch?
Julie: I usually go at noon and return at one. We have an employee cafeteria here in the building which makes it convenient.
Tina: Thank you Julie. Bette and I will let you get back to your work. You have been most helpful.
Bette and Tina looked at the files. There were two stacks about two feet tall each.
Tina: Maybe we should have brought Paris and Jeanette?
Bette: Well, let’s get started. First, let’s see what files we have. Prioritize what we want to see first and get started. Get some of those page markers. That is going to be handy. If we run out of time, we simply have all the files copied.
Tina: That is going to cost a mint.
Bette: I do not care right now…. let’s get started.
Bette and Tina went and started to sort the files. There were several that were real estate files. She put those in a stack.
Bette: Tina just quickly scan these files and make sure you see nothing that is there is nothing relevant and then set them aside.
Bette kept sorting. There was a thick divorce file on Melvin W. Porter vs. Catherine E. Porter. Bette set that one aside. Then there was Melvin Porter and Maxine Brown Prenup agreement. Elizabeth Maxine Porter – Trust Agreement; Catherine Eleanor Porter – Trust Agreement; David William Watters – Trust Agreement; Mary Patricia Southerland – Trust Agreement; Child of Mary Patricia Southerland – Trust Agreement. Then there was the Will of Melvin William Porter -file. And then there was a file called Mary Southerland a/k/a Maxine Brown Porter. Bette’s hands began to shake when she found it. She stopped sorting.
Tina could see that Bette had found something. She could also see that there was only a few more files. The balance of the files were numerous but thin.
Tina: Bette? Have you found something?
Bette: Possibly, this file is titled Mary Southerland a/k/a Maxine Brown Porter. Let’s review this first.
Tina: Go sit down and review that one, let me sort through the rest of these files.
The balance of the files appeared to be background investigations on various people. Most of whom Tina had never heard of. She went through the files. She began to read the names aloud: Junior Simpson, Leroy C. Mason, Billy George Johnson, Gregg Hillsboro, Steve Wilson, William Jefferson Watters, Kelly Freemont, Laura Trammell, Mary Ann Young, Alice Pieszecki, Shane McCutcheon, Dana Fairbanks, Jennifer Schechter, Marina Ferrier, Helena Peabody and Christina Mallory Kennard.
