    Chapter 21

(Tina) I’ve achieved so much, but I don’t feel very excited about the future

(Bette) And that’s tied up with me?

    Tina looks at her.

    (Tina) Yes

Bette watches her as she waits for her to continue.

(Tina) I realised a while ago that I don’t want a future with anyone other than you. But also that I needed to accept that a future with you is impossible

Bette looks as her and Tina shrugs.

(Tina) And I guess that’s pretty sad, right?

Bette looks at her for another moment.

    (Bette) You think it’s impossible?

Tina looks back at her and then takes a breath and looks towards her wine, gathering her thoughts.

(Tina) I have to say, the conversation that we had, with you trying to explain how we managed to get from the relationship that she knew to the mess of two years later, that was kind of amazing to me

    She looks to Bette.

(Tina) I think I was so caught up in my own hurt and anger at that time I don’t think I ever really properly reflected on that. On how much things changed in that time, and how I was as much involved in that as you. And I think her just absolute rejection of it even as a possibility in her relationship has really made me see how far off course we were already

She holds Bette’s gaze for a moment.

(Tina) If you’d asked me a month ago when I think our relationship fell apart I would have said it started with the cheating. But I can see now that’s not the case

Bette takes a breath and looks back at her.

(Tina) I’ve come to terms with what happened, long ago actually. But I’ve never understood it. It was easier to just blame you than to try to

She pauses and Bette waits for her to continue.

(Tina) I see it differently now. I can imagine trusting you again. And I’ve never thought that before

Tina smiles and shakes her head.

(Tina) So no, I don’t think it’s impossible

They share a smile. After a moment Tina looks away and has a sip of wine and then turns her focus back to Bette.

(Tina) There’s something that I need to say to you, before we get too far into this conversation

    1. I like that these two are finally talking. Taking responsibility for their own actions and attitudes and not playing the blame game. That generally gets you no where. I like that they look at the risk which they are taking and decide that the risk possibilities are fair low. And I like that the way forward is just an old fashion date. One step at a time… that is what life is… I have real hope for these two….

      Thankyou for the story…

    2. This is my saving grace since B&T is not on the show. Gosh i can feel the emotions… i can imagine their smiles when their looking at each other. Thanks, K! You’re an amazing writer.

    3. Wonderful chapter!

A honest talk and a date soon. There’s always a risk it couldn’t work out but if you don’t take risks you will never found out. About Angie, maybe they should keep it for themselves that they are trying to build a relationship for awhile. It must be confusing for her, years of not being on good terms and then hop in a relationship. Let’s do a few dates first before they talk with Angie or their friends.

      Really like this story!

    4. katynd,

I love this story, this chapter is excellent. “Let’s find out for fucks sake” Yesss!

My other favorite lines are when Tina told Bette she forgave her for cheating on her, and that it’s time she forgave herself, too. Perfect.

      I enjoy all your stories.
