    Chapter 21

(Tina nods) I feel the same. It’s not as if those issues are at the forefront of my mind when I see you. At all actually. I haven’t thought about any of that directly in a long time

    (Bette) No, me neither

(Tina sighs) So what is it then?

    Bette looks over at her.

(Bette) I think, for me, I’m not even sure it’s you I’m angry with. I think I’m angry at us. At how badly we fucked up something so wonderful

Tina nods and has a sip of wine.

(Tina) We really did, didn’t we?

They share a sad smile. Tina sighs.

(Tina) I think it’s also to do with never having managed to move on from you

Bette looks at her for a moment and then nods.

(Bette) I’ve obviously never managed it either

They hold each other’s gaze for a moment, before Bette sighs and continues.

(Bette) I think I probably could have. I could have found someone else, maybe even been happy. The thing is though…

    She looks to Tina.

    (Bette) I haven’t wanted to

Tina takes a breath and they look at each other.

(Tina) Alice said the same thing, of both of us. That we haven’t wanted to move on, and so we haven’t

(Bette frowns) Did she say that to you?

(Tina smiles) 2002 me. I think she had a way of getting everyone to speak their mind

Bette smiles and has a sip of wine. She looks over at Tina.

(Bette) Do you think that’s true of you as well? That you haven’t wanted to move on?

Tina looks at her for a moment and then nods.

    (Tina) Yes, I do

Tina smiles and shakes her head.

(Tina) I’ve been self-sabotaging for years now

    (Bette laughs) Me too

Bette has a sip of wine.

(Bette) So, we’ve both chosen to not move on then. To make no real effort to do so and then to actively sabotage anything that despite all that manages to progress any further

Tina smiles and has a sip of wine.

(Tina) This is depressing to reflect on

Bette smiles and Tina raises an eyebrow at her.

(Tina) Do you need to sum up ten years of my relationship failures so succinctly?

    1. I like that these two are finally talking. Taking responsibility for their own actions and attitudes and not playing the blame game. That generally gets you no where. I like that they look at the risk which they are taking and decide that the risk possibilities are fair low. And I like that the way forward is just an old fashion date. One step at a time… that is what life is… I have real hope for these two….

      Thankyou for the story…

    2. This is my saving grace since B&T is not on the show. Gosh i can feel the emotions… i can imagine their smiles when their looking at each other. Thanks, K! You’re an amazing writer.

    3. Wonderful chapter!

A honest talk and a date soon. There’s always a risk it couldn’t work out but if you don’t take risks you will never found out. About Angie, maybe they should keep it for themselves that they are trying to build a relationship for awhile. It must be confusing for her, years of not being on good terms and then hop in a relationship. Let’s do a few dates first before they talk with Angie or their friends.

      Really like this story!

    4. katynd,

I love this story, this chapter is excellent. “Let’s find out for fucks sake” Yesss!

My other favorite lines are when Tina told Bette she forgave her for cheating on her, and that it’s time she forgave herself, too. Perfect.

      I enjoy all your stories.
