    Chapter 21

Bette looks over at her and waits for her to continue.

(Tina) You said that you could get past my behaviour from back when things were really awful between us, but that I would need to be sorry, and you’re not sure whether I am

    Bette continues watching her.

(Tina) And I wanted to let you know that I am sorry. Very sorry. I’ve never said that to you before because, well… I’m honestly not sure we’ve had a real and honest conversation since that time. Things were so far gone between us there didn’t seem much point in seeking you out to apologise, but I should have

Tina reaches out and takes hold of Bette’s hand.

(Tina) I’ve been sorry about how I behaved for many many years

Bette nods and squeezes her hand.

    (Bette) Thank you

They hold each other’s gaze for a moment before Bette looks down towards their hands.

(Bette) I think I should probably tell you again now how sorry I am for my past behaviour too

Bette meets her eyes and Tina smiles at her.

(Tina) You apologised many times back then

    (Bette) I know

Tina looks down at their hands for a moment, before raising her eyes to Bette’s.

(Tina) Bette, I forgive you for cheating on me

Bette takes a breath and looks back at her with glistening eyes.

(Bette) I didn’t think I’d ever hear you say that

Tina smiles and reaches towards her, holding her hand to the side of Bette’s face and running her thumb gently across her cheek.

(Tina) I think it might be time for you to forgive yourself too

They hold each other’s gaze for a long moment before Tina leans away, readjusting her body and leaning her elbow on the back of the couch. She looks at Bette and sighs.

(Tina) Why do you think we’ve held onto our anger this whole time? Continued to talk to one another so dreadfully?

    Bette sighs.

    (Bette) I don’t know Tee

Tina smiles to hear the reference and continues watching her as Bette has a sip of wine.

(Bette) I’ve thought about it a lot. The anger doesn’t feel particularly connected to the events from way back then, or at least hasn’t for a long time

    1. I like that these two are finally talking. Taking responsibility for their own actions and attitudes and not playing the blame game. That generally gets you no where. I like that they look at the risk which they are taking and decide that the risk possibilities are fair low. And I like that the way forward is just an old fashion date. One step at a time… that is what life is… I have real hope for these two….

      Thankyou for the story…

    2. This is my saving grace since B&T is not on the show. Gosh i can feel the emotions… i can imagine their smiles when their looking at each other. Thanks, K! You’re an amazing writer.

    3. Wonderful chapter!

A honest talk and a date soon. There’s always a risk it couldn’t work out but if you don’t take risks you will never found out. About Angie, maybe they should keep it for themselves that they are trying to build a relationship for awhile. It must be confusing for her, years of not being on good terms and then hop in a relationship. Let’s do a few dates first before they talk with Angie or their friends.

      Really like this story!

    4. katynd,

I love this story, this chapter is excellent. “Let’s find out for fucks sake” Yesss!

My other favorite lines are when Tina told Bette she forgave her for cheating on her, and that it’s time she forgave herself, too. Perfect.

      I enjoy all your stories.
