    (Bette) Hi Tina gives her an uncertain look and then glances around the lobby. (Tina) I only have a minute. You can come through, we can step into a meeting room on this floor Bette nods and Tina leads the way down a hallway and opens a door, gesturing for Bette to enter. Bette walks

    (Bette) Hi

    Tina gives her an uncertain look and then glances around the lobby.

    Bette nods and Tina leads the way down a hallway and opens a door, gesturing for Bette to enter. Bette walks around the large conference table and Tina enters the room and closes the door behind her. Bette turns and they stand facing each other, Tina still showing a look of confusion at Bette’s presence.

    (Tina) Bette, this is…

    Tina pauses and they hold each other’s gaze.

    (Bette) A surprise, I know

    Tina smiles at her uncertainly and then furrows her brow.

    (Tina) Did I mention the other night where I work?

    (Bette) Ah, no, you didn’t. There may have been some research on my part

    Tina raises her eyebrows and examines her for a moment.

    (Tina) And sorry, why are you here?

    (Bette) I wanted to ask you something. I tried to call but they wouldn’t put me through to you directly, and I didn’t want to just leave a message with your assistant. This seemed like a better option

    Tina nods slowly, still looking at her uncertainly.

    (Bette) l’ll admit I’m starting to doubt that decision

    Tina gives a small laugh, and Bette smiles. They hold each other’s gaze and Bette cringes.

    (Bette) It’s weird I’m here?

    Tina smiles and looks at her affectionately.

    (Tina) Well…

    They both laugh and look at each other for a moment. Bette then glances around at their surroundings.

    (Bette) I think I also underestimated how embarrassing this was going to be

    Tina smiles at her. She then takes a breath and furrows her brow.

    (Tina) What is it you wanted to ask me?

    Bette looks back at her.

    (Bette) Whether you’ll have dinner with me

    Tina looks at her for a moment and then looks down towards the table, gathering her thoughts. Bette watches her and Tina eventually raises her eyes and meets Bette’s.

    (Tina) Bette, I had a wonderful time the other night but I’m just not looking for a relationship, or anything further. I’m sorry

    They continue looking at each other, and Bette then smiles.

    (Bette) You’re stealing my lines

    Tina raises her eyebrows and Bette smiles at her.

    1. What a curious person Tina is… I must hand it to Bette for taking this approach to getting to know Tina Kennard. Make an offer of a casual dinner and stick with it. Make no romantic moves and let Tina make the moves. So now Tina has invited Bette into her home for a little what? After dinner conversation? Careful Tina… you may just become addicted to one Bette Porter.

      Thanks for the chapter…. anxious to see where this goes.

    4. Going to be an interesting ship with these two being almost mirror images when it comes to emotional investment. Tina is very direct and watchful.
