    Chapter 3

(Bette) Anything further includes dinner, does it?

(Tina smiles) Well it sounds an awful lot like a date, and that’s not what I’m wanting

(Bette) Shall we just call it dinner then?

Tina leans her head to one side and looks back at her.

(Tina) I’ve become pretty adept at knowing when someone wants something from me that I can’t give them

(Bette) And you’re getting that impression from me, are you?

    (Tina smiles) I am actually

Bette smiles and nods, looking away for a moment before focusing back on Tina.

(Bette) If you knew me better you wouldn’t be so worried about my being intent on pursuing a relationship

    (Tina) No?

Bette smiles and shakes her head slowly.

(Bette) No. They’re not really my thing. And I’m much more accustomed to playing your role in these conversations

    Tina smiles.

    (Tina) Is that right?

    They smile at each other.

(Bette) I’d like to see you again

    Bette shrugs.

(Bette) That’s all I’m asking of you, nothing else. No date. Just a casual dinner

(Tina smiles) I do like that word. Casual

    (Bette smiles) Me too

Tina looks at her for a moment and Bette smiles back at her. Tina sighs and shakes her head.

(Tina) I don’t know what I’m doing encouraging this behaviour from you

Bette smiles and Tina smiles back at her. Tina then sighs and raises her hands.

    (Tina) But OK, dinner

    Bette smiles.

    (Bette) OK

A couple of days later, Bette arrives at Tina’s house in the evening and walks to the front door. She rings the doorbell and Tina answers after a short while. As Tina opens the door they both take a moment to look at each other, both running their eyes down the other’s body. Tina looks up with widened eyes and meets Bette’s gaze.

(Tina) Oh my God I’m so overdressed

They both look at each other apprehensively and Bette frowns.

(Bette) Did I take the casual side of this too literally?

Tina laughs and shakes her head.

(Tina) No, I appreciate it actually

Bette smiles as Tina pulls her inside and closes the door behind them.

(Tina) Wait here, I’m going to change

Bette laughs as Tina makes her way down the hallway, taking her heels off as she goes.

    Comments

    1. What a curious person Tina is… I must hand it to Bette for taking this approach to getting to know Tina Kennard. Make an offer of a casual dinner and stick with it. Make no romantic moves and let Tina make the moves. So now Tina has invited Bette into her home for a little what? After dinner conversation? Careful Tina… you may just become addicted to one Bette Porter.

Thanks for the chapter…. anxious to see where this goes.

    2. Going to be an interesting ship with these two being almost mirror images when it comes to emotional investment. Tina is very direct and watchful.

Looks like they’ll have the real chance for “friendship”,

Was’t xpctng Tina to ask Bette in. Let’s see how she handles herself . . .
