    Chapter 3 – Lets Make a Deal

Tina:  Your father was a very clever man.  He could have set up some scholarship program entity which only paid for Paris’s education.  Paris would never think to look into who was giving her the scholarship. And Mary could be in the same boat. If something arrived that said Angie has a full boat scholarship to the school of her choice due to her grades, test scores and recommendations, would we look very deeply into who provided that scholarship?  No, we would look at the terms of the agreement and the legitimacy of the giving organization and go on our way. We might say thank you very much to the entity. But with every check we would smile with pride.

Bette: Yeah, I can see that. So there really is a possibility that Mary does not know that Melvin knew about them. Wow…I hadn’t thought about that at all. I hope to god this is true. It would save Paris a whole lot of heart ache. The problem is we don’t know what we don’t know. And Melvin was one of the most secretive people on this earth.

Tina:  Now that he is dead, we can’t exactly ask him for explanations either. Let’s get on our projects so Angie can concentrate.

    Angie:  Thanks mom.

Tina smiled. Bette made a cover letter and assembled a package to send to the schools for Daniel. She found the top three Daniel and Tina had selected and sent them the package. She had requested appointments for the next week, if possible, for both herself and Daniel. She then assembled a resume’ package for herself.  She then began exploring universities and colleges in the area.  She quickly selected her top three picks.  She sent two resumes to each university; one to the Dean of the School of Fine Arts and one to the Personnel office.

    Tina: Are you finished Bette?

Bette:  I’m finished for the night.  I sent out three resumes for Daniel and three for me. I plan on reading though all those documents tomorrow morning.

Tina:  Can you get me a copy of that lease agree with Helena? I am assembling our supporting documents for our driver’s licenses. We get the last piece tomorrow.

Bette:  Oh, sure. How many copies do you want?

    1. Collins,
Isn’t that the way life is? Lots of things going on which requires multi-tasking? My Bette and Tina are on the same page… they have been working at it for more than 20 years. They know what irritates and what soothes the other. They know they have responsibilities for their children. And most of all, they love their choices they have made in life – each other as partners, their professions, and their role as parents. This is a summer of change for these two. New professions, new home and a some what different family structure. The transition from their New York life to a life in California is full and getting Angie ready for Yale is thrown into the mix. Time is limited and what needs to be accomplished is much. And these two women will get it done…

      Thank you for reading.
