Chapter 3 – Lets Make a Deal
Tina: These two cars together, cost less than one luxury vehicle. With the money we saved, we can pay a full year’s tuition for your college education or three years of private school for Daniel. And yet we both have a new car which will meets our needs.
Daniel: Wow, I think they are really cool. Can we take ride in them?
Bette: No, not tonight. We will be going to see Dr Wilson tomorrow, so we will all be riding in one of them tomorrow.
Tina: I think I’ll drive tomorrow. Why don’t we go back inside?
Bette: Daniel, tomorrow we are going to the ladies’ doctor. You need to bring your hand-held video games or tablet to entertain yourself. I’m afraid that we are going to be occupied for a couple of hours so you need to be prepared. We will go to lunch somewhere before the appointment and then we are having dinner with Aunt Paris and Aunt Jeanette tomorrow evening. Next week, it will be your turn to go to the doctor. Okay?
Daniel: But Mama T and Angie will be in New York.
Bette: Yes, and I will be here with you. We are getting you a doctor here in California and you will see him or her next week to have your initial checkup and so you will be ready for school. We will be getting all your immunization records and medical records transferred here. Of course, if you are due to get any immunization shots, now would be the time to get them. That way, your immune system will be prepared to fight off any germs from a new environment.
Daniel: Oh, I hate shots.
Bette: Well, you’ll hate being sick worse. A shot is over in done in minutes, illnesses last for days and will generally keep you in bed and out of school for days.
Daniel: You’re right. I’ll take the shots.
Angie: Am I going to have to have any immunization shots?
Tina: We need to check with Yale admissions to see what they require. I’m sure they are going to want your immunization records. Why don’t you call them in the morning about 9 and asked them what they require? Talk to the admissions office and get them email you the medical requirements for first time entering students and find out how we communicate medical information to the school. We need to take care of this as soon as possible. Now, Dr Wilson will not be giving you any immunizations, but she can refer you to a doctor who will. Or we can try to get into your doctor in New York to get them if any are required.

Collins,
Isn’t that the way life is? Lots of things going on which requires multi-tasking? My Bette and Tina are on the same page… they have been working at it for more than 20 years. They know what irritates and what soothes the other. They know they have responsibilities for their children. And most of all, they love their choices they have made in life – each other as partners, their professions, and their role as parents. This is a summer of change for these two. New professions, new home and a some what different family structure. The transition from their New York life to a life in California is full and getting Angie ready for Yale is thrown into the mix. Time is limited and what needs to be accomplished is much. And these two women will get it done…
