Chapter 31 – Off to New York

Mary:  Well, I’ll give them a try. I’m sure that if Angie likes them, then I probably will too.

Bette:  Mom, I’m going to your room to change your sheets and get your laundry. Is there anything you need washed this morning you want me to get?

Mary:  I showered in the other bathroom. I brought those towels out with my swimsuit. Except for what I have on, I think that is all that I have dirty at the moment.

Tina: Well, we have a washer and dryer in New York to wash anything that needs it. We are more concerned about Angie. We would like for her to have all clean clothes and linens as she starts her school life.

Mary: With more people, you have to do more laundry. So, let’s get this breakfast underway. What can I do?

Tina and Mary began the process of making the breakfast. Bette started on the laundry and then set the table and poured the water. Daniel and Angie came down and saw Mary in the kitchen and were quickly in there to inquire as to her health. Bette had to laugh. It was really sweet that the kids were so concerned about Mary.

When the food was served and the family sat down and began to indulge. Mary actually liked the grits. Bette took Tina’s suggestion and crumbled her sausage into the girts and thought it was excellent. The butter and pepper added just the right taste which appealed to Bette. Much better than cream of wheat and much more flavor than oatmeal.

After breakfast, everyone participated in the laundry while Tina began the lunch preparation. They planned to eat at 1:00 and it would be a large Sunday dinner. Tina put on a beef roast, then prepared some macaroni and cheese, some green beans and some fried squash. There was some left-over strawberry-rhubarb cobbler left over for dessert. Mary assisted with the food prep. She was fascinated with the recipes Tina was using for her mac-n-cheese. Tina then made her sweetened ice tea. They all agreed that they should refrain from alcohol until they were on the plane and then they could only have one if desired to relax and as a sleep aid.
