Chapter 31 – Off to New York

Bette: Well, we can help her get settled if she needs it. Then maybe we can all go out and get some lunch before we check into the hotel.  You just need to make sure she knows she is welcomed to stay with us for the evening.

Angie:  I have not mentioned that to her just yet. If she had plans with her family, I did not want to compete with that. She needs to spend what time she has with her family.

Bette: Oh, I understand and I agree. But there is no need for her first night at college to be in that dorm room alone either.

Angie: Well, I’ll talk to her about it later this week once she sees more of what is actually going to happen. Now do you really think Mary is okay?

Bette:  Yes, sweetheart.  I think she is fine. She is working with your Mama on our feast. She full of energy and she seems and says she is fine.

    Angie:  Well, that’s good.

Bette:  Everything is right on schedule. We will all be on our way to New York in about 12 hours. Now, come on down and help me with this laundry. Then you can finish your packing once you have your lunch and cleaned up.

They proceeded downstairs and found Daniel carrying towels and linens upstairs.

Bette: Angie, why don’t you give me your set of keys to your car? We will have it serviced and we will need to drive it from time to time so it will be ready for you when you get home for the holidays.

Angie:  Oh, yeah right. And if Grandma Mary comes to visit, she can use my car if she needs one. I know she’ll take good care of it.

Bette:  We will all take real good care of your car. Now, you know that Greek week will be the first week you are in school, right?

Angie:  Yeah. I might take a look at that to see what’s going on, but I don’t expect that I am going to be a right fit with those girls.  Suzanne has already said that sorority life is not for her.

Bette:  Well, that is all up to you. You just need to keep us informed as to your plans. It will have a big impact on what happens next year.  You know, like where you live, what your wardrobe is going to be, your friends and your life at school. So, if we are to assist you, we have to be informed.
