Chapter 31 – Off to New York

Bette and Angie had gone to her room to do a final walk through on Angie’s intentions for the remaining items in her room and to be sure that she had everything she wanted to take to New Haven.

Bette: Angie, I think you are ready for this. You are well organized and you have everything segregated and ready to go. I am amazed.

Angie:  Mom, you know I learn all of this from you. Organization results in efficiency and no wasted moments. Yes, I do think I’m ready. But you know how much I am going to miss being home? A lot. But I am so excited about this new life at college. I am so pumped about college and going to classes and living independently. Although, I do not feel that I have been restricted at home, I just feel a sense of freedom looming that is just waiting for me to step into.

Bette:  That my dear is your future you are about to step into. Go for it with all that you are. Your mama and I will be cheering you all the way.

They hugged tightly.  Bette’s eyes teared up just a bit. Her baby girl was now a young lady with style and grace and a purpose. Getting that college degree.

Bette:  Have you talked to Suzanne recently?

Angie:  Yes. I talked to her yesterday. Her family seems to be in chaos at the moment. They seem to have left most of their preparations to the last minute. She said she was still waiting for her passport to be delivered. She has not started packing yet but will start this week. It’s as if her family has refused to accept that she is actually going away to school in ten days. They act like she might change her mind.

Bette: Did you say that she has a scholarship?

Angie:  Yes, she has a full boat academic scholarship in pre-med studies. Her parents plan to send her some spending money but she is getting an on-campus job to assist with extras as well.

Bette:  Pre-med? Wow. She must be pretty smart. I can’t wait to meet her.

Angie:  I expect that her parents will pretty much take her to school, help get her stuff into the room and then say goodbye. I can’t imagine. But it’s a long drive and they have smaller children at home they want to get back to.
