Chapter 31 – Off to New York

After everyone had enjoyed their various selections and shared much of their food, Bette paid the check and the group walked back to the apartment. Mary, Angie and Daniel decided they wanted to watch a movie while Bette and Tina decided they would retire to their room. Bette felt that she and Tina needed some time just to talk and Bette knew she needed to gather the paper work she wanted to take to the closing. So, they hugged and kissed Angie, Daniel and Mary goodnight and reminded them not to stay up too late. Morning would be here before they knew it. Bette then checked the door to be sure it was locked and turned out the lights in the foyer, the living room and the kitchen except for a small light in the supply room. She took Tina by the hand and walked to their bedroom. They decided to change into some pajamas and their robe and Bette went to their study to find the paper work on the New York apartment. Tina crawled onto the bed and picked up the book she started on the plane. Once satisfied she had what she needed, she put the file on the desk and then went to join Tina in the bed but not disturbing her. Bette was wearing her reading glasses and was preparing to get her own book out when.

Tina: Is there something you want to talk about Bette? You seem a little distracted this evening.

Bette: Yes and no. I do want to talk to you. But I’m really thinking that I am just overthinking things and I feel a little foolish.

Tina: And what is it that you are over thinking?

Bette: Things have been moving so rapidly for the past few days… few weeks really. Do you think we are doing the right thing?

Tina removed her glasses and put down her book.

Tina:  Bette, I absolutely think we are doing the right thing. I believe that it is time for us to move to California. It was time for me to retire from the movie industry. It is time for you to slow your life down a little as well. It’s time for us to enjoy living our life. It’s time to stop and smell the roses. We only get one shot at this life. And there is no time like present to enjoy what it has to offer. And we are in a position to do exactly that. And the timing could not be more perfect. So, what is worrying you?
