Chapter 31 – Off to New York
It was close to 3 pm when the family retired to their rooms for their naps. They began to stir at almost 6 and all showered and dressed for dinner and went to the living room down stairs to wait for Bette and Tina to emerge from their bedroom. Bette and Tina had difficulty getting up but knew their family was waiting on them. So, they made their way to the shower and dressed for dinner in some causal clothes. They were cordial with one another but not talkative. They really would have preferred to sleep several more hours. They made their way to the living room and saw the others were not full of energy either.
Bette: Okay, here is the plan. We go to dinner at the Chinese place and then we come back and there will be no more work tonight. You can watch a movie or tv in the children’s lounge, or you can read or you can just call it a night and go to bed. We will get up early in the morning – Be down here by 4:30 New York time. We will go to breakfast and then start our work. How does that sound?
Mary: Oh, thank you. That was a good nap, but I feel like I really need some more sleep.
Daniel: Sounds good to me.
Angie: Yeah… good plan.
Tina: Okay, lets’ go eat.
Tina led the group out of the front door and into the elevator. They quickly walked the block to the Chinese restaurant and obtained a large table for the 5 of them. Once into the meal, the conversation got livelier. Mary had enjoyed working with Daniel and Tina this day. Angie had enjoyed working with Bette. The next day, Mary, Angie and Daniel would be working as a team while Bette and Tina went to close on the sale of the New York apartment. Then they would start on their room. Bette asked that they concentrate on the upstairs and when they had done all they could do to work on the main floor. She reminded them to keep the laundry going and to make sure the towels as well as everyone’s dirty clothes were laundered. She told them not to work more than 2 hours without a break and to keep hydrated. Bette then told them that she was pleased with the progress that had been made believed that with some luck, Thursday and Friday might be “play days” for them. Of course, the highlight of their play time would be Hamilton on Thursday night. Bette hoped that she and Tina could get through their room by noon Wednesday and the balance of the house could be completed that afternoon. Tina had done some preliminary work when she was here in July and that had helped tremendously. It was the reason she had most of her business wardrobe in Redondo Beach and Tina had some of hers as well.
