Chapter 31 – Off to New York

After dressing everyone sent their towels down stairs. Bette carried the luggage for her and Tina down stairs and Tina carried the towels. She quickly put them into the washer and started what they believed would be the last load. It was already 3:15. Bette was checking her purse for passport, credit cards, cash, ticket confirmations and other things with would make her trip pleasant. Bette had packed all the envelopes of cash with the accompanying letters for the doormen in her suitcase. She also put the file on the New York apartment correspondence. The original file on the purchase of the New York apartment was there.

Daniel had carried his own suitcase down and was headed up to get Mary’s suitcase. Angie was struggling with her own suit case. Bette went to help her with it.

Bette: My god, Angie, what’s in here? Gold bricks?

Angie: Its everything I want to take to New Haven with me. If it’s not in this suitcase, it won’t get to New Haven.

Bette:  Something tells me that some of this is going to get shipped back here after we repack your stuff. You will not have as much room as you think.

Angie: Well, if it’s here, it doesn’t stand a chance of getting to New Haven.

Bette: I understand. Help with this, or go find some rope and pullies so we can get this down the stairs. You know the only place you will be able to even keep this piece of luggage is under your bed. You may be able to store your extra blanket and sheets in it. And then your clean towels and your emergency supplies in your trunk in the closet. And your laundry basket next to it. Then the floor on your closet will be full.

    Angie: Not much closet.

Bette: Nope, it’s not. But you and I will take care of that tomorrow.

When Bette reached the bottom of the stairs with Angie’s suitcase, she looked stressed. Tina could tell that she was not pleased with the weight of Angie’s suitcase.

    Tina:  Are you okay Bette?

Bette:  Yes, I’m fine. Looks like we are going to have to go through Angie’s school wardrobe one more time and thin some more.  But that is tomorrow’s chore.
