Chapter 31 – Off to New York
Bette: And oh, at security. Just follow the instructions of the officials. No comments or smart talk. Just answer the question in a strait forward manner and tell the truth. And do what they say to do. Hopefully, it won’t be crowded this late on a Sunday evening. Put all of your carry-ons on the belt to be x-rayed. If they tell you to remove your coat, do so. Or your shoes, same thing. Do not wear any jewelry except maybe your wedding ring if you have one. No metal in your pockets. Put any keys or metal items in your backpack or your purse and let it go through the x-ray machine. Your cosmetics should be in your big bag and all of that will be checked at the curb. Have your passports and ticket in your hand at security. Then all you will need is your boarding pass in your hand. Once we get through security, secure your passport in your purse or backpack and zip it up. And let’s not get separated.
Daniel: Do I need to carry my emergency cash?
Tina: Yes. And make sure your phone is fully charged. Try not to get separated from us. If anything happens and you do get separated, go to a police officer for assistance or an airline representative. Those will be the ones in nice suits or blouse and skit outfits that have the airline logo on it. And try to call us on your cell… or send a text message. Go to the gate where our plane will leave. That will be on your boarding pass. Hopefully we will all stay together.
Daniel: Don’t worry Mama, I’m not going to wander off. That would not be a good choice.
Bette: Okay, let’s get the kitchen cleaned up and then we will all proceed to get ready for our flight. Bring down your towels, maybe we can get them washed and into the dryer before we leave. Oh, and help Mary get her luggage downstairs. In our next home, we are going to have an elevator.
Bette, Mary and Tina began to clean the kitchen. Bette took the garbage out and put it out for collection. Tina put all the left-over food into the freezer and Mary washed the dishes. Bette then came in and dried and put away. Bette put Angie’s keys into her small file cabinet in the media room. She handed everyone their passports. And the kids went upstairs to begin their showers and to get ready for their trip.
