Chapter 33 – Days of Fun and Then New Haven
Mary: So where are we going for dinner?
Bette: We are going to La Goulue which is only about 10 minutes away. Now all the food is really good at this restaurant. They have fish, chicken and beef. Their appetizers are to die for. And they have some nice desserts as well.
Tina: The serving sizes are not enormous but are a good size. So, if you really want dessert, you will have room if we share some appetizers. Just order what you want and enjoy.
Angie: This is exciting. The last time I was in New York, I had my first escargot. I really enjoyed it.
Mary: An adventurous soul, aren’t you dear?
Angie: Well, I have to admit that didn’t know what they were until after I had eaten them. But they actually tasted good. So, I had no problem with them.
Tina: I want some of that seared salmon. I love that but I want someone to share it with.
Bette: Well, why don’t I order some appetizers for the table and we share and then everyone order their own entrée and sides. Is there anything you want Daniel?
Daniel: Something simple. Maybe a shrimp cocktail?
Bette: Mary?
Mary: It all sounds good to me. Just order what you want to. I’m game to try whatever.
Bette: Okay, our apartment is only a block away. It’s a nice summer night so, I am going to dismiss the car and we will walk back to the apartment if that is okay with you guys.
Angie: I’m not exactly in walking shoes.
Bette: Neither am I but it is only a block away. We will be fine. We will need to walk down this dinner anyway. Oh, here we are.
The family went into the restaurant and were immediately seated. Bette quickly ordered the appetizers and side plates to share. She ordered a seared salmon dish, a large shrimp cocktail, some spicy rock shrimp tempura, two orders of escargot. She then ordered two bottles of an upscale Chardonnay and a soft drink for Daniel.
The family discussed the show they had just seen and how much they enjoyed the performance. The seats were some of the bests in the house as they could see the color of the eyes of the actors. The surround sound effects made then all feel they were almost on stage with the actors. Angie believed this was the best musical she had ever seen and knew this night was a memory she would have for a very long time.
