Chapter 35 – Labor Day and More
Holly: Yes, I did thank you. Frank and I took the boys to San Diego to the zoo and we also made a trip to Disneyland. Now that they are older, they are starting to enjoy those roller coasters and the more adventurous things. That’s when I’m glad I have Frank.
Bette: Oh, yeah. I remember those days. That is why I was always glad to allow my sister and her husband take Angie. I guess I am going to have to arrange for Daniel to have that experience too. Now that we are in California, he needs to experience California things.
Holly: So, did you get Angie to Yale okay?
Bette: Oh yeah, we did. Have you had breakfast? I bought some muffins and a couple of fruit cups. You can grab some coffee and join me if you like?
Holly: I left without eating. The boys start school tomorrow, so I won’t be doing that much. Sure, I would love to join you.
Bette: Well, I bought extra. Come on.
Bette went into her office and notice that it was freshly painted and had new blinds on the window and had been cleaned thoroughly.
Bette: Wow. This looks better. Is this a new desk chair? I don’t remember this.
Holly: Dr. Ferguson asked that you be given a new desk chair and that your furniture be cleaned during the break. She did not like the state of your office upon your arrival. She was not pleased at all. And since I was arranging for the office to be painted, she arranged the new chair.
Bette: Well, that is nice. I’ll send her a thank you note. Now, the muffins are just bran muffins but I have some cream cheese to dress it up a little and these fruit cups looked good. And, look, they gave me two spoons and two knives and a wad of napkins. We are in luck.
Holly: I have some paper plates in my desk. Let me get them.
Bette and Holly ate their breakfast and caught each other up on what had happened since orientation week. Holly was surprised that they had found a home in Santa Monica and would be moving in soon. Bette was glad to hear that the administrative assistants had showed up when summoned and helped Holly get the course handouts ready.
