Chapter 35 – Labor Day and More

Neither Bette, Tina or Daniel talked very much until the end of the phone call. They could tell that Angie was happy in her new environment. So, they told her they loved her and then signed off with a promise to talk later in the week.

Daniel was grinning from ear to ear. He knew his sister was happy and enjoying where she was. That satisfied him things were going to be fine for everyone. He then asked to be excused and went to the media room and worked on his computer and play some games while his moms worked on their schedule.

Bette then called Mary and gave her an update on what was going on with Angie and with Daniel. She then allowed Mary to tell what was going on with Alene and Grace. Alene was definitely moving in with her oldest daughter. Her husband had recently died and she was an empty nester. So, the family asked her to help the family out by moving in and sharing living expenses with her. Alene would put her home on the market and move by the first week in October.  And as for Grace? Sam had been so excited about being married again, he was pressing Grace to go with him to the Justice of the Peace as soon as possible and tie the knot. In his words “time is a wasting!” Bette laughed.

Mary then said that she told both of them that she would be moving to Los Angeles to be closer to her girls as soon as the arrangements could be made. And that by Thanksgiving, she would no longer be a resident of Arizona. Mary said that since everyone was moving on to a different phase of their lives by their own choice, her friends seemed to all have a sense of excitement and calm. The sense that they all had a plan and a chosen destiny was comforting knowing that none of them would be left behind. The decision had been made.

Mary then started to discuss her possessions and what she would do with them. Bette suggested that she first determine that which she wanted to keep and that which she wanted to dispose of. And to start the process of disposing of those things she did not want to maintain. She encouraged Mary to hire some help to move heavy objects and to do any deep cleaning she wanted to do. She encouraged her to start to box up those things she definitely wanted to keep. Once she was further along in the process, she and Bette would talk again. Bette could arrange for a storage building in LA or there might be room in the new home to store the items depending on the quantity. Bette ended the conversation with how thrilled she was that Mary would be moving to Los Angeles for certain. She knew Kit and Paris would be as well.
