Chapter 37 – Daniel’s Weekend
They finished things up about 2:30. Bette suggested a nap and then get up and get ready to go the Wilkins. Tina had picked up some wine and a cheese tray to take to the Wilkins.
Bette and Tina took their nap and were up at 4:30. Bette and Tina took their shower together. Tina shampooed the new short hair of Bette. She loved it. And Bette was able to towel dry it and then allowed it too air dry after she and Tina put the finger curl style. They dressed in some comfortable dress shirts and dress slacks with some low heels. Their make-up was perfect. Both were smiling at the attractiveness of their date for the evening.
Daniel came downstairs wearing his new Yale polo shirt and some khakis and his tennis shoes. Bette suggested that he get a hoodie incase the temperature became cool during the evening. Bette and Tina put a sweater in the car for themselves. Tina drove. The Wilkins lived in small bungalow in Santa Monica within a few blocks from their new home. This was a nice surprise for all of them. Bette began to think about a possible car pool.
Bette carried the wine while Tina carried the cheese tray as they went to the door. Barbara Wilkins came to the front door. She was an African American woman in her mid-forties. She had a happy look and welcomed them to her home. She accepted the cheese tray and wine and then showed them to the patio where she introduced her ex-husband Joseph Wilkins, Sr and her older son Joey. Joe was a Caucasian man in his mid-forties and had the bluest eyes Tina had ever seen. He was tall and had gray hair. He quickly stood and came and greeted Bette and Tina. He then shook hands with Daniel. Joey was not quite as friendly but gave a teenage typical nod and smile in their direction. Joey was tall and had a mocha skin color with a dark brown wavy hair. By most standards, Joey would be considered a handsome young man. They were then introduced to John David who was smiling very much in the same fashion as his mom. John David had the same mocha skin but his hair was lighter in color than Joey’s. He also had green eyes which Bette thought would serve him well as he entered the dating scene. Joe offered Bette and Tina a beer and asked them to sit and make themselves at home.
