Chapter 37 – Daniel’s Weekend
Bette: Orlando Florida. That would have to be a really special trip.
Tina: Disney’s trademark is animation – making something look alive and have human characteristics which in real life it simply does not have. It’s really very entertaining. But they have their version of some traditional amusement park rides. They have some roller coasters, some drop rides, and some others which are design for young children. They have a little something for everyone.
Bette: Yeah, now that we are officially California residents, we need to experience some of the things that are a part of California life. We thought we would do Disneyland first. We may not be able to do this sort of thing every week. But at least once a month, we will try to have an outing and experience some of the things that people want to see. There are museums, geographical wonders and parks. There are National Parks in neighboring states as well as studio tours and things like that. Similar to the things we did when we lived in New York City, you know?
Daniel: Yeah, that’s great Mom.
Tina: We did a little during this summer. But we really didn’t have time to really have a lot of vacation type experiences. But a part of our responsibilities to you and to Angie is to give you as many different experiences as we can. And that is what we are planning on doing.
Daniel: This breakfast is great Mom. Could I be excused so that I can finish up my homework?
Bette: Yes dear. We will call you for lunch.
Daniel stopped and hugged both his moms and then headed upstairs.
Tina: He wants to text John David about Disneyland.
Bette: Yeah, well. Angie was like that at his age.
Tina: Why don’t we get our grocery list together and you clean the kitchen up while I go to the grocery store? We don’t want to get too much since we are moving next weekend. We can go to the grocery store next Sunday or Monday for our new home.
Bette and Tina proceeded with the laundry, the kitchen cleanup, the groceries and started the cooking for the upcoming week. Tina started the spaghetti sauce and then made a soup and sandwiches for lunch. After lunch, Daniel and Bette and Tina started chopping vegetables for each of the casseroles. Tina taught Daniel how to cook the noodles for Bette’s chicken tetrazzini. Bette then had Daniel mix the chicken, vegetables, and cream of chicken soup to be added to the noodles. She then showed Daniel how to make the bread crumb and parmesan cheese toping while the casserole was doing its initial cooking. The crumbs and the parmesan were stored in zip lock bags and put into the refrigerator. They then started on the shepard’s pie. Daniel worked on making the mash potatoes for the topping. They decided to use the frozen broccoli and frozen cauliflower as the vegetable. After browning the ground beef, and the onions and adding the Worcestershire sauce to the meat, they started putting it into the casserole dish. They made a small dish of that. Tina said she would take a serving the next day for lunch to work. They planned to have a salad with the dish. Tina decided to go ahead leave the salmon in the meat drawer in the fridge. She would freeze the spaghetti sauce and the casseroles. She cautioned everyone that things needed to be taken out of the freezer every morning to be ready to prepare at the end of the day.
